There are a lot of fake controllers out there and a lot of people are paying good money for a cheap product. Rather than wasting your money take a few minutes to check some examples and make sure you're getting the real thing!
Fake Controller example 1

If you look closely (sorry the pictures are small) you will notice the SONY stamp on this controller is white. As you will see below the real controller is stamped with a dark gray color.

In this example there are two areas to pay attention to.
1) There is no SONY stamp
2) The PS button does not contain the PlayStation logo but rather says "P3"
Fake Controller example 3

1) The box contains oriental characters and has a PS III stamp rather than PS3 (even units marked for distribution in Japan or China show "PS3" and all markings not in English are on the BACK of the package)
2) Again you see the "P3" on the button rather than the PlayStation logo
3) In this location you should see "SONY", however in this case you see the PS III
Fake Controller example 4

Here you will notice that the DUALSHOCK3 and SIXAXIS is written in a dark blue or purple and there is no "SONY" stamp.
Real Controller example 1

In this picture you can see that the DUALSHOCK3 and SIXAXIS is written in a light blue and the "SONY" is stamped in dark gray.
Real Controller example 2

1) Again you see that the "SONY" stamp is dark gray.
2) The PS button shows the PlayStation logo
Real Controller example 3

1) Sony is marked in the correct place on the package.
2) DUALSHOCK3 on the package rather than DUALSHOCK III as you will see on the fake above (forgot to circle it above)
3) Again you see DUALSHOCK3 as it should be and no oriental characters
There are many other subtle differences such as the shape of the "O" in SONY on the fake versus the real, a slight raised rectangle around the four LED lights indicating which controller it is on the fake, stiff buttons and L3 R3 buttons, and different model numbers between fake and real. The problem with some of these indicators is that you won't know until you actually have the product in your hands.
