How To Create a Smooth Chocolate Text Effect in Photoshop.


What We'll Be Creating

Step 1
Create a new document at 1920 x 1280 pixels and fill the background with the color #39312C. You can also use a Solid Color Fill Layer as your background to make the color easy to change later on.

Double click your background layer in the Layers palette and apply the following layer style settings.

After creating your Gradient Overlay, and with your Layer Style dialog still open, click and drag on your canvas to position the center point of the gradient in the top-center area of your background.

You should have something similar to the image below.

Step 2
Create a new Curves Adjustment Layer, and drag the center point of the curve down and to the right a bit.

Add a layer mask to your Adjustment Layer if it doesn't already have one, and paint black in the center with a big, soft brush so that the Adjustment Layer only effects the outer corners of your image.

Step 3
Create your text using a script font. We're using [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Set the Fill of your text layer to 0% in the Layers palette, and apply the following Layer Style settings.

Make sure Use Global Light is unchecked, because some of our other effects use different lighting settings.

The colors used in our Gradient Overlay are #443C36 and #574D47.

Step 4

Create a block of text in capital letters using a plain, sans-serif font. Use the color #2D2520.

You can increase the tracking of your text in the Character palette to 250 for a more elegant look.

Apply the following Layer Style settings to make it look like it's embedded in our background.

Final Design

You're done! In only 4 steps we've made a delectable looking chocolate text effect in Photoshop.

You can easily go back and change things like the background and text colors for any number of smooth looking text effects.
