This is a simple tutorial on how to make a custom gradient to use in photoshop. For this tutorial, I am using photoshop Cs6.

    - Select the gradient tool* (shortcut key G) [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
    - Click on the gradient at the top of your screen under File. Click the actual gradient, not the dropdown arrow next to it. [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
    - This will open up the Gradient editor [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
    - After you are done customizing* your gradient, name it and press the "new" button.

You will be able to use this gradient just like any of the default gradients.

Notes

*If there is a paint bucket instead of the gradient tool, right click it and select the gradient tool instead.

The color stops on the bottom decide what colors to make the gradient blend. You can move them to change where they start and stop blending. You can use the dot between the color stops to change the blend style.
To change the color of the color stop, double click it, and select the color you want. To add another color stop, click anywhere below the gradient preview bar.
The color stops on top are for the opacity of the gradient. Changing the opacity of the color stop determines if it starts to lose opacity, or starts to gain opacity. The easiest way to figure out exactly how to use these is to just play with them.
