NEEDS TO HAVE EPIC BASS

Greetings friend,

For your needs, you have two options in my opinion. Either the Klipsch [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] or the Hippo [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] . The Klipsch earbuds have the added bonus of having an in-line controller for iPods, while the Hippos should have a slight edge on sound quality. To be honest, either way you will be happy.

Happy trails,
Zim

Agreed, and keep in mind that big budgets like $150 are not always necessary. The way the dubstep scene is right now, with lots of listening happening on Youtube and lossy codecs, expensive gear will bring out more flaws than you can imagine. After I got nice headphones, I had to go through my library, delete tons of songs, and re-download most of them at higher bitrates like 320 kbps or lossless. This takes time and effort and often higher-quality versions of a file may not be available.

To help me find out what is best for you, please post these things:

Your budget (make sure you tell me what currency!)$15 with shipping.

Which genres you'll be listening to. DUBSTEP DUBSTEP AND DUBSTEP

What kind you want (over-ear, on-ear, in-ear, no preference, etc.) and whether you want portability. I like earphones in ear

Whether you want open or closed headphones (open allows other people to hear at high volumes and some improvements, closed headphones do not leak sound as much and are slightly limited in some ways). Open

What you are listening from (iPod, phone, desktop computer, laptop, console, turntable, etc.).

Greetings friend,

Based on your varied musical tastes, I would venture to recommend the Audio-Technica [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] . If you find yourself needing something equally capable with a variety of genres, but with a bit more of an emphasis on bass, I can reccomend nothing more than the Audio-Technica [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] . I own a pair myself and I love them, especially for dubstep. However, these are far above your price range and if you are unwilling to extend your budget to that extent, then you may find the Ultrasone [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] to be a bit more tolerable. If you absolutely cannot spend that much, then the Koss [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] would be an acceptable replacement, but not nearly as good as the others. If you can't spring the ~$150 for the M50s or Pro700mkIIs, then my suggestion would be to buy some Koss [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] and save up for the said Audio-Technicas.

Happy listening,
Zim

Also, Grados might be your thing. I have no idea how they will behave with dubstep, but it would be quite interesting and I'd love to hear it. It sounds like you are primarily a rock person, though. For rock, there is nothing better than Grados. They're just absolutely legendary, like nothing else. For your budget, the SR80i or SR125is are your best bet. Make sure they have an "i" after the name, it does matter. If you just want to sample the Grado sound (signature), pick up some SR60is without dropping a ton of cash.

If you want headphones more balanced that thrive in almost any kind of music (but don't shine in any particular genre the way the XB series does for bassy music and the Grados do for rock), Audio Technica ATH-M50s might be what you are after.

Also JVC Marshmallows. Zim, if you know of anything better at this sort of budget, I'd like to know. But seeing as these have great value and the bass goes where you want it, I can't help but recommend them.

But you shouldn't. Maybe I should edit the OP. Beats, Bose, Skullcandies, and gaming headphones absolutely SUCK in terms of sound and build quality. The headphones I recommend here are superior in price, sound quality, build quality, features, and many other things.

Let's see if you can pick out a good pair for me.

What I'll be listening to:
Gabber, Dubstep and Hardstyle mostly. Very bassy with a high BPM.

My budget:
$50 USD

What I'll be listening from:
iPod Touch or Computer.

Type:
I like plain earbuds, not the ones that go inside your ear, and not the ones that wrap around your ear.

Open/Closed:
Open

What are your suggestions? I'm currently using stock Apple earbuds, and they work pretty fine, but the cords are mangled and jagged, and I don't think they'll last much longer. I've bought at least 10 pairs of Apple earbuds.

And...

We've got a fireball!

Thanks for all the attention, everyone. Remember to respond back and tell me if you want to be PMed when your question is answered!

Sounds like you need some serious durability, especially for the cable. There are very few ways to make IEM cables durable, unfortunately. If you want a lifetime warranty, the Koss Portapros would be your best bet, but they are on-ear. They would be good for your kind of music, too.

Another solution would be to get IEMs with a replaceable cable, like Shure's SE series. These are outside of your budget, though.

There's no way to guarantee a cable will last, and build quality is usually most important at the actual headphone. I'd look at the Brainwavz M2, which fits your music style pretty well and is very well built. Another option would be the Monster Lil' Jamz. Not nearly as good as the M2s, but built like a tank. Not sure of the cable, though. Good luck.
