You've probably heard about a game called Minecraft. About the incredible things people have made in it. About the blocky, pixellated landscapes. About the tens of millions of euros that its rockstar developer Notch has earned from it.

Well it's finished. After about two years of development, huge amounts of media attention, and a business model that let people pay less cash to get an alpha or beta version that wasn't feature-complete, or even in some cases stable.

But if you're reading this, you probably don't care about any of that. You want to know whether it's worth shelling out 17 for. The answer is unequivocally yes. But it would cut the review rather short to stop there, so allow me a moment or two to convince you.

[Note: This is a review of the desktop version of Minecraft, available on PC, Mac and Linux. The mobile version, Minecraft Pocket Edition, is available on iOS and Android, and only includes the game's highly-limited creative mode.]

Mechanics
On a basic mechanical level, Minecraft is about two mouse buttons -- one breaks blocks, the other places them. You're dropped in a random spot in a procedurally-generated landscape, and tasked with surviving. To start with, that's not too tricky -- your pastoral paradise is full of shady trees, languid pools, rocky coastlines, herds of sheep and cows, and mountains that soar into the sky. But then night falls, and things change.

At night, aggressive zombies, skeletons and other monsters start to appear. If you're out in the open, the odds of you making it through the long, long night are slim. Instead, you need to spend the hours of daylight building a rudimentary shelter and creating tools to help you survive.

A basic technology tree begins to take shape -- collecting wood lets you make a crafting table, which lets you make a pickaxe, which lets you mine stone, which lets you create a furnace, which lets you smelt iron ore into iron, which lets you make a better pickaxe, and so on. I say "and so on" like the rest of it isn't worth worrying about, but it is -- the tendrils of Minecraft's complexity stretch as wide as circuit design, animal breeding, Indiana Jones-style raiding of sunken strongholds, cake-baking, and the construction of huge, incredible structures (and their subsequent sharing on YouTube).

What makes Minecraft distinct from so many other videogames is that the vast bulk of your time is spent creating things, not killing and destroying. I'm as keen a fan of shooting aliens as any hardcore gamer, but Minecraft scratches a very different itch. There are enemies, but mostly they're a nuisance -- something in most cases to be avoided, if possible, rather than slain for points or progress. Occasionally they're a resource: You need to kill skeletons to get bones, to get bonemeal, to help grow trees. Perhaps there's a subtle environmental message to be found there.

In many cases, the real enemy in the game is the dark. What will kill you, more often than not, is running out of torches but just poking a little bit further down that tunnel. It's running for your paltry little shelter as the sun begins to set, and knowing you're not quite going to make it before the moon rises.

Stories
Minecraft is a game about stories, and every Minecraft player has them, from their very first night. You might know someone who's a big fan of the game, and they're constantly babbling about "that time when...". Give Minecraft an hour, and you'll come away with 20 of those stories of your own.

That's a compliment for two significant reasons. The first is that a randomly-generated landscape can produce so many things that are worth talking about. Skyrim's vast open world is incredible, but it's a playground that someone has built for you. In Minecraft's open world, you're handed the tools, and you design the playground of your dreams. That can mean epic treehouses, sunken cities in glass domes under the sea, forts built into the side of a mountain, or even a house built in the shape of an enormous sheep.

The second reason that's a compliment is that a mere hour of play yields so much fun. Minecraft expands to fill the space available to it, so if you can only dedicate an hour or two a week to the game, you'll still be able to get some useful work done -- maybe reshaping the roof of your house, adding a conservatory, or exploring a small cave. A common misconception is that it takes over your life. It doesn't. It merely fills the bits of your life that you've got spare, and leaves you pleased you spent them that way.

Blocky
The graphics shouldn't be a turn-off for anyone. The blocky representations of sheep and pigs are far cuter than a real sheep would be, and the zombies are more scary. The game's most terrifying baddie -- the Creeper -- wouldn't be so scary if it was made of 10,000 polygons. Instead, your mind can fill in the gaps -- if you asked 20 Minecraft players to draw a more photorealistic Creeper, each would come out with a different idea, fuelled by their own internal terrors. The Creeper you see in your head is your own, and yours alone.

There are still the odd rough edges -- two in particular. The first is that there's a bit too much forced wandering around, hunting for scarce resources, to reach the endgame -- where you hunt down a final boss in an entirely different dimension, providing an end point if you want one. The other problem is that there's no in-game guide to how to create different objects, and few hints (beyond an achievements system) as to what it's possible to create. You need the Minecraft Wiki not only to find out how to play the game, but to find out what game there is to play.

Still, there's no suggestion that Minecraft's creators are going to stop or even slow down further development of the game -- its release merely represents a milestone in that process, where they feel that they're happy enough with it to call it "done", and where reviewers like me can finally assess it.

Finally, it'd be unfair not to mention Minecraft's incredible piano soundtrack, created by German electronic musician C418. Most of the time, you won't hear it, you'll just hear the game's ambience -- moos, lava fizzles and the steady thud-thud-thud of a block being broken. Occasionally, though, just as you're sailing along a broken coast, or climbing a hill at sunset, or returning to the surface after a tough day down your mine, the twinkly piano will kick in and there's no feeling like it. It's one of the touches of genius that will make you come back to the game again and again.

Conclusion
So should you buy Minecraft? Yes. If you don't, you're missing out on a real fairytale of indie videogames -- of the triumph of one guy, an open design process and meticulous editing over the hundred-strong teams, focus groups and secrecy used in the development of triple-A titles. Great art invokes feelings, and Minecraft has feelings in spades -- you'll come away with shock, fear, pride, calm and a sense of incredible wonder at the your new blocky world. There's nothing else like it. Pick it up now.

Incredible open world with so much to do
Will inspire hundreds of stories

MLB Front Office Manager

Game Information
Release Date: January 26, 2009
Developed By: Blue Castle Games, 2K Sports
Genre: Sports
Platform: Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360
Rating: E

Synopsis:

MLB Front Office Manager is an American Baseball game featuring all of the Major League Baseball teams. The game however is not played from the perspective of the players, but from the perspective of the coach/manager. Most people who play sports game prefer the player perspective, making this game the first of its kind and one of the least popular. Over the 30-year career of your GM, you will be judged on 8 things: North American scouting, international scouting, pro-league scouting, player development, trades, contract negotiation, and owner confidence and leadership. The game uses the SABR stat system, and keeps track of small things over time such as pitcher vs. batter history.

Multiplayer:

The idea of the multiplayer have up to 30 GMs and having a long competition was original and creative, but it was not played out well. There was lots of lag at times, and some games would quit on you. The game was not maintained well and was not followed up on as it should have been.

Graphics Rating:

For the time that the game was released, the graphics were disappointing. The players were very pixilated at times and seemed blocky without smooth edges. Graphics receives a 4.5/10

Multiplayer Rating:

The games multiplayer was well planned but poorly designed and maintained. If the game would have received better post release support, it would have scored higher, however it ended up awful. Multiplayer receives 4/10

Overall Rating:

The game was a poor game. It was not planned well and the audience it was focused on did not even like the game. This game was not what it could have or should have been. It receives a 4/10

Recommendation:

I would not recommend anyone to buy this game, as it most likely would not be the game they were expecting. Unless you are given this game for free, there is no point in owning the game.

The missions in this game are amazing your always on your toes wondering whats gonna happen next. The missions are constantly changing one mission you might be stealing several cars and in another you could be chasing after some greasers It's quite a long game with 15 chapters and several missions it each one.

Graphics

Graphics are extremely good may even be better then gta's graphics. The attention to detail in the character and city is astonishing. Closing windows, taking food out of the fridge, changing license plates, paying for gas etc is some of the smaller things that are so detailed. This game feels truly realistic with the different seasons along with the ability to get killed slamming head on into traffic

Overall Rating: 9.5/10

This game is amazing it takes 20 steps forward from the original mafia and is one of my favorite sandbox games. If you have the money then i strongly suggest that you go pick it up.

Sniper: Ghost Warrior

Release Date: June 24, 2010
Developers: City Interactive
Publishers: City Interactive
Platforms: Xbox 360, Playstation 3, PC
Genre: First Person Shooter
Rating (ESRB): M (MATURE)

Synopsis

Sniper: Ghost Warrior is a tactical first-person shooter for Microsoft Windows, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 and the second installment of the Sniper:-series. It was released on June 24, 2010 for Microsoft Windows via Steam with the Xbox 360 version released on June 29, 2010 and the PlayStation 3 version on April 28, 2011. The game is based around the role of the military sniper, which the developer has noted that the public interest of which has increased thanks in large parts to shows on channels like the History Channel or the Military Channel. The game's objective is to insert players into the role of an elite sniper team sent into a hostile area in an attempt to help the rebels of Isla Trueno, a fictitious Latin American country, fight against the force who has toppled their government in a coup d'tat. A sequel, titled Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 was announced to be in development and is expected to be released sometime in 2012.

Gameplay/Graphics

Being a hunter myself I use sniper rifles all the time, and if I was to join the military I would either be in the airforce or a marine scout sniper. This is one of the most realistic first person shooting games ive ever played and this IS the best sniper games ive played. I could play this game over and over so the replay rate is really high. The graphics are AMAZING the only thing I dont like is when you kill people its not to realistic, besides this I would highly advise people to buy this game youll fall in love

Gameplay/Grapichs Rating: 10

Problems for American buyers

Myself being a american I could not find this game in any retail stores in my area. Ive also talked to some of my UK friends and they told me they only sell it in EU, the only way to get it is to buy it on ebay but shipping can be a pain because international stuff always gets lost and costs alot. My ultimate decision was to just download a ISO of the game and play on my jtag, the only thing wrong with this is that I cant play multiplayer so I will not do a review on multiplayer.

Multiplayer

Like I said in the section before being a american I have to play off of my jtag to advoid international shipping. So if any user has played the multiplayer of this game please post as a comment below and I will use it if its good (I will check for copy and paste), you will also recieve full credit. Im doing this because I dont see it fit to review a part of the game ive yet to play yet.

Saints Row 2

Story : Basically, your character is in a hospital, stuck in a coma. First thing you do, obviously, escape. Next you will start to meet new people and see people that were in the previous game (Saints Row 1). In the game, you first have to defeat 3 gangs. After that you go after a corporation that runs everything in the city. The main goal is to take over the city.

Story rating : 8.5/10

Character Creation : Lots of variety. You can pretty build your character however you like.
Rating : 9.5/10. Lacking of voice animations.

Gameplay : The controls feel pretty good. Although its something confusing when navigating the menus, you get used to it. The only downside would be driving. Driving in saints 2 is simply unrealistic and retarded.

Gameplay rating : 7/10

Graphics : The graphics are okay. They could be much better. Lot's of shiny colors that gives me headaches.

Graphics rating : 7/10

Overall, its a pretty good game to rent. Is it worth the $50? I dont think so...

Overall rating : 7.5/10

This is a Hand Written Review

Skyrim is an amazing game and has mad history in the mythical games. In this game you can go on quests level up kill dragons get new gear and much more. Skyrim is rated 9.5 stars out of 10 blowing out other mythical games made in the early days. Skyrim is a great game but sadly it has no Multiplayer. Bethesda has told us that they want to make a great Multiplayer experience [Note/I think the game is to good for it]. Skyrim puts you in amazing quests and if you play enough you will find your self eye to eye with a fire breathing dragon. [My weapon of choice for dragons/ Cross bow for when they are flying and Sword if there close.

2ed part Credit to techchurch.com

Skyrim is, as Im sure you know, a beautiful game. But like many of us playing it, it has good angles and bad angles. Fortunately, 90% of the game is good angles: the wide-open terrain of the overworld, the majestic towers and walls of the cities, and dank and decaying tombs and barrows, the wonderfully-modeled monsters and objects, all of these things are difficult to fault. The landscapes of the mountains can often be truly breathtaking, and many times I stopped for a moment to appreciate the view the way you might if you were hiking. And not simply because it looks good for a game, but because it was beautiful enough to warrant a moment of appreciation. Similarly, many of the tombs and dungeons you explore have excellent looks to them and great attention to detail.

So what I have to criticize is certainly a small minority of the game, and while youll notice the same thing in your playthroughs, it rarely detracts from the game. Humans are probably Skyrims weakest link graphically; while people certainly look better than they did in the previous games, and look natural enough when theyre doing certain normal things, there was little attention given to many of their animations, and they walk with a strange combination of woodiness and gliding. Its 2011, the world is rendered with astonishing richness, yet its denizens slide up steps like ghosts. Its a little sad that the opening scene of the game is a demonstration of its least-appealing visual aspects.

And the faces are still, alas, not so hot. Quest characters and many shopkeepers and such look all right (and to Bethesdas credit, are extremely varied), but many simply dont, and people all seem to be the same medium height and build. The Nords seem to have eliminated the short, the tall, and the overweight from their population entirely.

ESRB rating: M

Synopsis

At the start of the game, Jack (the character controlled by the player) is a passenger on a plane that goes down in the Atlantic Ocean in 1960, after ordered society in Rapture has collapsed. After surfacing, Jack finds himself the only survivor of the crash, and swims to a nearby lighthouse, where he finds a bathysphere which he uses to descend into the ocean and enter the failed "paradise" of Rapture.

Gameplay

The gameplay give and errie feeling all the time, as if something is going to pop out at any moment. The maps that you have to play on is very nice and big, although you do get lost at spots in the game but it is still fun and nice.

It is very fun and a catching story. It keeps you in the story all the time. You are always going into a twist in the story, everything is always changing and building on itself.
