On Xbox, if they are appearing Offline it will say "Gamertag - Offline"
ex. l Plagues l - Offline
If they really are offline it will show "Gamertag - Offline For "__" Minutes"
ex. l Plagues l - Offline for 34 Minutes
Really? Is that true , confirmed? Cause if so that'd be pretty cool and a lot easier than the other method

What I do is check under their gt what their last played game was. Check a little later, if it changes then you know their online.
