If you want bass in an over-ear headphone, the Sony XB700 (I recommend these A LOT) is a solid choice. You can probably try them at Best Buy, as well!

The Hippo VBs are a decent choice for bassy IEMs, but I would recommend the Xeport 5010s instead because the bang-for-your-buck is much better.

I'm sure there is an IEM that I'm forgetting to recommend, but it's not coming to me.

Atrio X? Fischer Audio Eterna? Brainwavz M2?

Pretty much all the above. You get the PM I sent you? It's still in my outbox.

What PM--oh! I just noticed that. I should probably respond.

You'll like the Ultrasone HFI 780 and the Aiaiai TMA-1. I would get the former since it's actually more portable due to it's versatile design, but both are great for the price and will have the bass to compliment your music! If you want to save some money, the AKG K181DJ is a great alternative. There are plenty more, as well. Just have a look at the headphone guide or ask!

out of those two you recommend. which has a better sound quality. and (i hate to do this but i have a lot of friends with them) what is the quality compared to beats?

Both are on the level of the Beats Pro or above it. The HFI 780 more so than the TMA-1, which I personally don't like (Only because I am not just a bass-person).

I would get the Ultrasone HFI 780, in short. They sound better and the design, in my opinion, is better. Let your Beats-owning friends listen to them. I have a feeling you'll have them regretting their purchases! I would say that the Ultrasone line is the biggest threat to the Beats market share since people who like the Beats' sound will LOVE the Ultrasone sound!

Hey r00t_b33r, maybe you should include what the different types of form factors are. Something like this:

Circumaural/Around the ear: Headphones that covers the ear completely instead of just resting on it. Example: Ultrasone PRO900

Supra aural/On ear: Headphones that rests on the ear and not completely surrounding it. Example: Sennheiser HD25

In-ear/IEM/canal phone: Earphones inserted into the earcanal and provides isolation with a tip.

Earbuds: Earphones without a tip for isolation, like the ones that came with the iPods.

You can't really get much for $30 and rock and closed except for the Skullcandy (yes...Skullcandy) Uprock. While I generally dislike Skullcandy, these are probably their best sounding headphones for rock. They have this nice vintage-y sound that makes classic rock awesome.

Active noise canceling is not going to be available that such a low budget, and passive isolation is a much better choice for both sound quality and affordability.

I would also get a pair of in-ear headphones instead of over-ears because at this budget, as Ishcabible said, there are few good options. Although, the JVC HA RX700 is a great value full-size headphone. It is very large and is not suitable for portable use, but the sound is quite good for what you pay. It should handle both rock and rap very nicely.

If you want some serious sound isolation, Etymotic IEMs are very well-known for doing this well. They're a bit light on bass, but they make up for it elsewhere. Etymotic has models for most budgets.

Another good in-ear option is the Soundmagic PL30. They perform well above their price point and have a balanced sound signature that will handle different genres very well.
