Don't know if i fully understand what the question is but...
Theres 2 fans, so 2 positive wires and 2 ground wires.
(i always)leave the ground wires attached and cut the positve wires andsolder the them to the 12v sources.
i think thats how the method in the OP was done.

Above I do not understand how he soldered everything together. I know on the regular connector there is a red & brown connector that are the positives each with their own pin, and then in the middle is the ground that the blue / black share.

In the above picture he made two solder connections each with a wire that goes off the border of the picture. My question: Is that wire all one piece that connects off screen or do each of the wires off screen connect to something else?

You can forget how he did it; it is confusing because he didn't show everything. Instead you can cut the red and brown wire, twist them together and solder a wire to them. Then solder that wire to a yellow point shown in the picture below, then your done.

Alternative you can also get a read of your nand, open that in 360 Flash Tool. Go to the "Tools" tab and select "Edit Config"; on the bottom of that new window click the "Edit Config" button. At the top the 'CPU/GPU Fan Speed' should have a blue box next to them; click on both of those of the blue boxes. Move the sliders all the way too the right. "Save Config" at the bottom. It will ask you to save;do it. Wait for the progress bar at the bottom to finish and your done.

I feel like I would need to invest in some additional parts to get a read of the nand.

But others agree soldering to the yellow point is the best way to go over the method described in post #1?

Can anyone else confirm the best method based on the 1st post or the one 2 posts up? I just want a 2nd opinion before I start wiring up my 360.

Best way if you aren't tagging or RGhing it. If you are, just edit the SMC and set the fan speeds manually.

If first post, does the red wire just connect solder point 1 to point 2?

I don't like either of those ways. I use this method
