I was wondering how long does the heat gun method last if done right, before getting 3 rrod again?
And if its not long like kinda permanent then is it better to save up for the best reflow with that machine thing etc...
So what I am saying is, Will the Heat Gun method of reflowing fix it semi permanently or permanently or kinda long.

It will most likely be a temp fix,
could last for a week, month if lucky 6months. but be prepared it will come back.
How ever, for a Permanent fix, you will need the Re-flow Machine I use: aoyue 968

If done correctly it is the same as a reflow station (as that is a heated plate with a heat gun above)
If you want a professional fix then a reball is the way to go, as the RRoD is caused by the soldier under the chip cracking.

I wouldnt label it the same as a reflow station, is get it repaired correctly by a reflow or reball mate from a professional setup.

A reflow station pre heats the board and the "heat gun" on the top heats the chip to a certain temp for X amount of time..... As long as you do the same then you will get the same result.
NOTE: Yes I said "heat gun" as that is what is on the top of a reflow station

a Reflow Station i.e (machine) doesn't preheat the board.
you're thinking of a griddle what some people use as a preheater < wouldn't recommend using this due to board flexing.

Thanks for the help Kong and everyone else too. I have a guy I found on Craig's list that can do it for $35 and if it ever breaks again he said he will do it again for free:D. So yeah thanks I will save up for the professional reflow.
