Just my random bits of advice:
1. You don't need studio-quality headphones. Period.
2. If you want headphones that are identical to Apple's defaults, but cost about $40 more... go with Skullcandy.
3. Anything by Dr. Dre is destined to be trash, unless Em's involved.

Of course you don't NEED anything. You can survive on bread and water, but that would suck. If that's all you've ever known, imagine your reaction when you're introduced to a nice well-done steak. Many times more expensive, yes, but worth it? That's up to you. People also prefer different sounds. Some might prefer a cold and harsh analytical signature that presents their music in excruciating detail and some might like a fun, colored sound. I find I like headphones to be true to the source, so studio-quality headphones are the way to go for me in that they have an "honest" sound signature. I prefer it.

Wu-Tang wroter00t_b33r wroteIphonesczar knows hi stuff to. I'm not seriouslt considering buying them. After my Crossfade Lp's I'm probably gonna get some AKG's.Wu-Tang wroter00t_b33r wroteAlot of Youtube reviews say that there wonderful. Granted many Youtube reviewers know nothing. They look like Beats and I love the way they look. That's the only good thing going for Beats.Wu-Tang wrote What do you think of Fanny Wangs?
Slightly better than Beats for the price but still pretty overpriced. I don't recommend them, but I won't heckle you as much if you get them.
Here's Ishcabible's review of them: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
But yeah, never trust Youtube reviews unless they're people like Tyll Hertsens: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
Or this guy: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
Which AKGs? I'm imagining the Q701 here, they'll be drastically different in every aspect. They'll also need some pretty powerful amplification.

SNES wrote Budget: $100-$350 (i could go higher if you think its necessary)
Music preference: i listen to a little bit of everything.. but mainly dubstep and rap i guess
Type / form factor and portability: over ear.. and portability doesnt matter
Open/Closed (Not for in-ear): closed
Source(s): ipod/ipad/laptop/large ihome-like thing
In order of ascending price:
V-Moda LP
Ultrasone HFI-580
Brainwavz HM5
Audio Technica ATH-M50
Ultrasone HFI-780
Philips Citiscape Uptown
Audio Techncica ATH-Pro700MK2
V-Moda LP2
Ultrasone Pro 750
AKG K550
Ultrasone Pro 900
I've bolded the particularly bassy ones. Of these I'd probably pick the Pro 700 MkII for the price and for what you're after.

Oh, someone asked about Fanny Wangs? Yeah, they weren't my favorite. BUT I just got some new headphones by the same maker of Fanny Wangs and I must say, these are the first fashion-friendly headphones that punch above their weight! I like them more than the TMA-1's I was able to listen to for a short time (still wish I could have a pair to compare them to, but I don't really have an actual need for them so I'd rather save my money)

I have the Laredos at the moment, and will get the Silverados eventually. The Laredos have a very warm sound (which I normally wouldn't really like) but somehow have pretty good vocals for their price point. They handily beat my AKG K181DJ's in almost every aspect. The AKG's have colder mids though, which some people may like more. But still, they're freaking fantastic for $99. The preorder price makes them nothing short of a steal because they're one of the few bassy headphones that...don't suck. I'm trying not to sound like a shill, but aside from hollow mids and slight ringing, they're bitchin'. I probably wouldn't recommend them to most of Head-Fi, but for you guys, I can't really think of anything better as a whole package: great sound, awesome durability, and pretty good looks.

Just took a look at these... Freaking wow. That's probably my favorite headphone of the sort as far as looks go, and if what you have to say is true, I want a pair. I REALLY want to put down the cash for the Laredo, but I need to focus on getting one high-end pair.
Added to my master list. Now to try to sell one of these to my brother...

You've got plenty of great options.
Bassy:
Audio Techncica ATH-Pro700MK2
V-Moda LP2
More Neutral:
Brainwavz HM5
Ultrasone HFI-780
Ultrasone HFI-580
Philips Citiscape Uptown (Slightly bassy)
i like all of these and i was just wondering if you had any more good bassy suggestions. they dont have to be right on 200 just anything below so they can be around 100-200 preferably... i think that im leaning toward the V-Moda LP2 but still not sure if theres any way that i could get some more suggestions with the bassy head phones that would be greatly appreciated... btw i already thanked and plus repped you so ill just give more later... thanks man.

If you crave bass, drop everything and get the Pro 700 MkII. Really.

I can attest that the claims of seismic bass are in fact true.

I figured out what these sound like; read up on reviews of the CC51, improve the sound, add more mids, and you basically have the Laredos.

Just said I'd meet my brother halfway on the beta Laredos. I think it's happening. YUSSS.
