David K: Hello, thank you for contacting Xbox Customer Support. My name is David K. Please give me a moment to review your question.
Tony: ok
David K: Hello Tony, I understand your xbox live expired so you used a 48 hour code, is that right?
Tony: Yes, and i underdstand that this is happening to alot of people.
David K: You are correct, it is a known issue that they are currently working on. You will still get your 48 hour trial, however it won't start until the issue is resolved I'm afraid. There has been some issues they'v ebeen working on fixing today, and this is among them. SOrry about the inconvenience Tony.
David K: Also I want to warn you, please don't use anymore 48 trials on your account, they do not stack with eachother.
David K: What actually happens is that it starts 48 hour trials from the moment you enter it. So if you enter another 48 hour trial, it just starts the time over
Tony: Ok lol. i was worried it was the code. Do you know when it should be fixed?
David K: I don't but hopefully within the next few hours. If not then it should be fixed by tomorrow
Tony: Ok thank you very much! You guys are the best!

All I no it is a glitched caused by the down time, just delete your account then recover it.
My account takes over 45 minutes to download again so I'll just wait and see what happens...
