XeJerry wrote In your opinion for speakers, what do you consider for a guy like me who loves dubstep and listens to rap occasionally? I love bass too. My price range would probably be from $0 - $200?

Hmmmm... I'd go with this setup:

Make sure you have all the wire you need. I think this setup would involve connecting the amp to the subwoofer to the speakers. Four wires. The amp won't be powering the sub, it's just passing through so it gets signal before going to the speakers.

Music preference: Heavy Metal, rock

Type / form factor and portability: overear headphones (cupped)

Open/Closed (Not for in-ear): closed i think (dont realy mind too much)

If you can spend 10 more, definitely get these:

In the UK you're getting a far better deal than we are in the US.

I think I've already asked before, but I'll do it again just to test the waters. Not sure if I can justify such a purchase to my parents, but either way I intend to get the best bang for the buck.

Any suggestions? Bumping this post up.

I knew I missed something. I have no idea what sort of sound signature compliments those genres, but I don't think you can go wrong with the Koss DJ100. One of the few cans I've actually been able to use, it's nice and neutral, built well, versatile, and portable. The hinges are pretty cool, too. I'm completely unsure of availability or pricing in Canada, though, as always.

Are you using these 'phones with an amp? I've read around and there's a number of people claiming that these don't sound their best without one. Also, have you used other pads on these?

I've found one of these going for $67 CDN on amazon.ca (with a $15 gift card it'd be around $51). Are the DJ100s worth it at this price?

I found them awesome even unamped, but that's my uncultured opinion and I can't back it up. Never had the opportunity to use them with an amp, but I was really surprised by the quality. For that price, I really can't think of anything better. Every review I've seen was absolutely glowing and they were at a higher price. Never tried any other pads, they belong to my friend.

Found a kijiji seller with a TBSE1 for $60. Looks like the DJ200s but with that signature on the cups (which I'd much rather not have). Tyll claims that it sounds different compared to the DJ100s, but he also said that could be caused by the improper fit.

I honestly don't see how these couldn't be completely identical. Seems like it would be terribly inefficient on Koss' end to make a slight change in this model compared to the other. Personally I'd put some sort of covering over the signature, like a sticker or even plasti-dip.

Just got them. First impressions: a ton of sibilance, and cymbals sound really, really bad (if for a lack of words). This is through the Sansa Clip+.

Oh, and sooooooooooo forward.

I think I need to look into an amp, because this pair should have been burned in by now, and it just doesn't seem to sound that good - yet.

That's pretty different from what I remember. I liked their sound as soon as I put them on, but again, my impressions don't really mean anything. For the price, my jaw dropped. That was unamped from my laptop.

Just realized something. It lacks body. I definitely need an amp...
