People need to stop being so mad at the police officer. Maybe he could have tackled him or something but I mean he was probably scared shi*less when the dog started charging at him. We will never know whether or not the dog was actually attacking(i think it was) and if he was and he didn't shot the dog it could have been a lot worse. Those dogs are extremely strong, don't ever let the size fool you. They can do serious damage. Also dogs mouths are really dirty so if he did get bit there is a huge chance of an infection. Its also a homeless dog meaning it hasn't had a shot in its life so it could have had rabies. So in the end it probably is a good thing he shot. The dog lived, the homeless dude lived and obviously the police officer is fine so it probably was a good decision on his part.
And to anyone who says the dog wasn't growling doesn't mean its not attacking. My dog got attacked once by a dog who ran up to him, started circling around him and then pounced on him. Not once did the dog growl. Most dogs would growl put some may not. Lets just be thankful that everyone is alive including the dog, I mean a police officers job is to protect the citizens and if that dog showed any signs that he would hurt a citizen the by all means he did what was necessary.

I would have at least kicked first, shooting an animal is a little excessive.

CANT-B wrote Wow they could of just shot him with a teankuliser dartI can tell that you wouldn't understand, To fire a "tranquilizer" dart you would need to use a completely different mechanism to fire it(if you don't know how guns work, you won't know what I'm talking about.), which not many police officers would carry. They could have shot a stungun at the dog which would have done less damage, but that is about it.

Oh my God. i am never going in news post. because people make the most stupid comments responding to these. The Cop had to shoot. its self protection. i would shoot the dog anytime a pitbull got close to me if it was attacking. The dog was not protecting its friend it was startled up by the cops. and those stupid people yelling at the cops can go screw off. and the other comments saying thats america and all that crap. go back to europe.... i dont care about yall.
