Cyx wrote Maybe time is like this:

There are timelines for each decision, so there are infinite timelines for all eventualities so you could travel forward in time but would be on one of those timelines.

i like the idea. So maybe everything is based on a grid like # all the paths intersect, so you could travel down one timeline, intersect with another that you wouldn't have otherwise intersected.

I just believe how they do it on TV. lmao
Basically the future can be determined based on what has happened, what is happening, people's determinations and goals, so on, so forth, the list never ends. This is why changing something in the past will change the present.

Looking at it like this makes life easy.

math says that time travel can exist. first you need to be near the speed of light. because time slown down you could be inside something traveling close to the speed of light, be gone for say 4 days and when you return 400 years has gone by. einstein's theory of reletivity says that time travel is possible.

i believe what we now know about time will be completely wrong ing say 200 years. like how we thought the world was flat. i believe that time travel is possible but you need to be super highly advanced to even make the machine let alone do the math

So:

year 0 -------------------------------year 100000000
We're here^

Now if that is how it works, and we are merely travelling along this line, the change in the future has happened but we have not reached that part in time yet.

either way I don't think it is possible but I'm just putting this point out

If you subscribe to that point of view you re saying that everything is pre-determined which means that free will doesn't exist.

or is free will the ability to change the pre determined future?

Sorry if i'm being a bit slow...I just woke up from like a 15 hour sleep

So, you're saying that if we made a machine that could Pre-determine the choices that are still to be determined then forward time travel would be possible?

no not at all haha, i am just saying that free will changing the predetermined future is an argument, it's not really what i believe in but it's a good thought.

I am a roman catholic but I think about everything. And I think it's meant to be that way

Ah, ok. I see what you mean.

I still can't find a way that anything can be pre-determined without invoking a God or conscious process.
To me, it's like saying Evolution knew we would turn out exactly as we are.

I like to think of it like the man from MIB 3, he see's every single outcome from every possibility and the reality is based upon other peoples' free will. He can see each of these possibilities, however choosing his own path is not possible as everyone intervenes with their free will... probably sounds like a load of nonsense haha!

I thought they did that movie incredibly well with the time travel. They thought of some of the tiniest details to put in and I applaude them for it. The ending kind of seemed rocky because of how the time traveling didn't change the present time much or get the one guy to talk more, but excellent movie over all.
