Piemaster2 wrote You are actually all wrong. Einstein proved forward time travel was possible with his work on discovering space-time. The closer you get to the speed of light the faster you will move through time relative to someone moving slower than you. He proved this when he put two atomic clocks that were matched to the test. He put one on a plane and one stayed on the ground. The one on the plane was ahead of the other one by the smallest fraction of a second. Also mass affects time so if you are around something more massive, time will move slower relative to a less amssive thing.

Ohh yeah. I remember watching a program about that.
So if you were stood next to the Sun you would live longer than someone stood next to Earth?

say we had the technology and we had a train that went near the speed of light that circled the globe since it is traveling at the speed of light everything inside said train would move slower as would time
say you bought a ticket for 10 minutes that 10 minutes would effectively turn into 10 years per say. Thus making time travel.
and for the black hole you would orbit around said black hole and the gravity would effectively start flinging you as you speed around making you go fast in such a way that this also would have the same effect you could be up there 100 years yet you would have only aged 10

The future wouldn't be the same, if you did time travel

For instance if Obama went in a time machine for 2 years, then he would be excluded from time for 2 years. So anything he could/would of done if he wasnt in the time machine, wouldn't be done.

Therefore if you wanted to look at your life in 2 years, don't go in a time machine because you wouldn't of existed for those 2 years.

this seems to be a endless argument but i think that it is possible that space and time endlessly repeat starting at the beginning aka the big bang and ending at???
but i dont believe that we will exist forever because everything has a ending but once we get to the ending time and space restart the universe explodes into a giant field of dirt and dust and that sets the stage for a repeat of the big bang setting the universe at the beginning again. in this theory if you go back far enough you will eventually be forward

I understand everything I have just read. Yet my science GSCE was very low due to my lack of concentration.

Forward time travel is possible and is not pre-determined as the future is based on the decisions we make.

As stated in the post just above me, being in a time machine for two years you will not exist for those two years is in fact a lie depending on the basic ideas of a time machine. If you go forward in time using a cryo-chamber, you will not be able to return from the future so you will be stuck so the statement would be true about not existing for 2 years. If we have developed a way to travel to and from any time region (so long as we do not change the course of history as history has already been done and if changed could cause cataclysmic destruction to the earth we know now and we wouldn't exist) time travel in this instance would be ideal.

There are a few theories on this. Time travel machines (cryo-chambers) subjects will not be able to return from the future and will be stuck there until the end of their time. However, if we use a teleportation time travel device that allows us to return to our current time from the future (just like the DeLoren from Back to the Future but different styles) will allow us to return to our stated opinions in time. However I would not recommend this theory as it is to unstable to know what would happen if you run into your future self. You may die or your future self may die upon eye contact due to being a rip in the fabric of time.

This is some serious stuff and pray to god we do not discover the means to time travel. The consequences for re-writing history could be cataclysmic and we could all die.

Teleportation however is a possible way to move forward. Not through time but through evolution of the revolution.

Mass slows down space-time. Mass warps the space around it which is what "pulls" matter in. If an object is travelling through space, it follows space.
Time and space are one so therefore, if space is warped, then so is time. This is why light cannot escape a black hole too.

Also, if you attempt to exceed the speed of light, space-time will slow down around you. Basically, if you hang around while space-time is running slower around you, when you come out, a week may have passed for you but for everyone else, it could be 100 years!

If you're interested in this kind of stuff, read up on Einstein and general relativity. Prof. Stephen Hawking is another good one.

If time travel is existent it can only be in 2 forms one I would call a loop time cycle and the other a multi-linear timeline.

Loop Time Cycle:

This would be where say we do jump back or forward in time, and time was on just one linear timeline. We would just relive time over and over again till the end. It would be like an iPod song stuck on replay that skips every time in the middle. I think this would be very dull and boring. Life would be repetitive and sooo very lame.

Multi-Linear Timeline:

It's where when a decision is made like someone Answering a yes/no question it would make 2 separate timelines each with more spanning from them as more decisions are made making a almost endless amount of endings to time (if time even ended on all of them). Now I first saw this in a show called "The Community" They roll a die to see who goes to get the pizza downstairs and it makes 6 different timelines (One for each side of the die) Each one is very different and the main one (they don't roll the die at all) continues on. I think this one would be so amazing. It seems to be a more practical one than the other.

Hope I helped

So you're saying that... if you did travel 'forward' in time then everyone would still be alive 100 years ago but you would just be ahead of them?

It's hard to explain what I mean. Hope you understand...

If you think it is impossible for forward time travel, then how do you explain the fact that the faster you go, the more time slows down for you. Lets say you are traveling to the nearest star to earth. It is about 4 light years away. You are traveling at light speed. By the time you get back, decades have past for us on earth but only 8 years for you...

Wow everyone already explained that. lol

Nooo, not quite. That's the easy way to explain it haha and it's very short for such a subject!
Think of it as creating a "bubble" around you which makes you travel through time faster, [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] to the rest of the universe. Time inside the "bubble" would appear to go at a normal rate you if you could somehow see outside at the rest of the universe, it would appear to run faster.
Has that made any more sense? I love this stuff and could go on forever about it.
Also, watch this, it should help A LOT!!
