I understand using mods but duping/boosting isn't modding so why do it?

They do it the same reason as someone would mod, they like to have the stuff because they find it fun. It doesn't really affect you much though so why does it matter?

But what I don't understand is why such a huge amount of people start doing it all of a sudden.

You don't have to understand it. It's going to happen whether you like it or not so we might as well all just get over it and move on

You don't have to understand it. It's going to happen whether you like it or not so we might as well all just get over it and move on

I just think you should at least beat the game once before duping and level boosting.
