The Uptown should be exactly what you're after.

In my opinion, the HD280s are among the worst >$70 headphones on the planet. They attempt to have a relatively neutral sound signature, and theoretically get this correct because nothing sticks out, but the treble is harsh and completely wrong tonally, the midrange flat out sucks compared to Beats, and the bass is sloppy and again, tonally inaccurate. And they aren't comfy and they aren't the most durable. I'm not really the biggest stickler on sound quality, but I'd rather listen to nothing than the HD280.
The Uptowns may not be the best sounding headphone, even for its price, but at least they do a few things right.

Well, in a perfect world, the Grado SR80 would be an option, but they leak a lot of sound so you can't really use them outside. Other than that, another fairly aggressive headphone is the AKG K181.

Depends on how much you want to pay. One's more expensive and a better headphone as a result. They're both good for the price, but not the same headphone (K81/K518 vs K181DJ).

Budget: 20-45
Music preferences: metal, rock, punk, alt rock
Type/form-factor: in-ear, I want good portability for running, cycling and on the bus.
Open or closed: whichever is best
Listening from: itouch 4g and desktop sometimes
Details: i just want some good portable, affordable sound
