zBloody wrote C++ and C# are what games are developed in... i know this because i personally interviewed a developer from redstorm entertainment who made ghost recon future soldier and is now working on Patriot
Games are made in virtually every language. C++ and C# (mostly c++) are just the industry standards.

Whereas python can be well applied to game development, languages such as C# and C++ can handle much bigger games better as they are more powerful.
It's a good idea to read some books on C#, or watch some videos on youtube. Then, you might want to look at Unity. The unity website comes with LOADS of tutorials and resources for making your games, be them zombie 3rd person shooters or Mario style platformers.
