There is no opening in the plastic that I can see. I know that all 2012 revised models have this opening and I would assume that older ones do as well because it exists to make it so they can be hung on display in stores. He has the older model judging from the Monster branding.

^ That is what it should look like. I also don't believe the plastic would look like this after being removed as it has a certain "soft" texture.

Still, don't buy bad headphones. These things are worth $5 based on their sound. If you want them as a silly fashion accessory, buy some cheap knock-offs from the source.
