First, you're going to want to find the theme that you want to upload. I suggest either buying a custom theme from [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] or downloading a free one from [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] .

After you download the theme, open the .zip file. There should be a folder either titled "Upload" or "Images" or something related the the theme such as "BlueTheme".

If there is a folder titled "Upload", upload all files within that folder into your site's main directory. If there is a folder titled "Images", drag and drop that folder directly into your site's main directory. If there is a folder with the title relating to your theme, upload it into your Images directory.

Now that you've just uploaded your images, it's time to upload your .xml file which should also be in the .zip folder that you got when you downloaded your theme.

Go to your Admin CP > Templates & Styles > Import a Theme. From there, upload the .xml file, make the Parent Theme the MyBB Master Style, and name the theme. Make sure you check the "Ignore Version Compatibility" box too. Leave the other boxes checked as well.

Now, your theme is completely uploaded and ready to use. To make it visible for everyone that view your site, to go your Admin CP > Templates & Styles. From there, go to Options > Set as Default for the theme you just uploaded. Your theme is now uploaded, and it should be visible to everyone that views your site!

I would NEVER limit myself to five plugins though.

I actually made a list of plugins that I really liked a while back, but it was on a different website Uzi and I ran. I have a folder of bookmarks where all the links are for plugins that I've installed/thought were cool/use. I'll just copy and paste the post I made though. Sorry that it's not five. Five just isn't enough. xD

Uzi isn't a very good theme designer or edited, but I could probably get something done for you. I have a decent amount of experience with skins. Message me on my AIM or Skype, and we can talk about it. I'm a part of this help desk too.
