Before I begin, please understand that I wish for this topic to be strictly nonreligious. I do not want any talk on afterlife or heaven/hell or anything similar. Thank you.

This post may be long and repetitive but it's something I've been thinking about a lot lately and it's really been bugging me. I want to see other people's opinions on things.

When people die, their entire body shuts down. Their brains stop. Therefore, they cannot have any thoughts or feelings or memories or emotions. So really, when you die, you're gone. You no longer exist. So that means, really, anything that you knew or anything that happened in your lifetime was worthless to you. You're gone and you'll never come back to see what has happened in the world, it's just over. And really, your existence was worthless and meaningless. Think about it, the human species lifespan is limited. Eventually we will all die off. In billions of years or however long, our star will eventually explode. Then it will be freezing cold here and unlivable by humans. If we have the technology to travel far enough out into space, we can find a livable environment and stay there until that star explodes. This can happen again and again and again, but eventually we would run out of stars to find. We wouldn't find a livable environment and we would all die. And all of this is IF we have the technology to do so. Eventually, we all have to die and our race has to end. But when we all die, there's nobody left to care. Nobody will be here to see everything that's happened in the history of the world. Everyone will be dead. So really, in the grand scheme of things, no matter who you are, you are worthless. In the end, we will all die and nothing will be remembered of us or anyone or anything. In the end, the things we do here today, no matter how special you are, will save us. We have to die off and we have to end.

As I said before, sorry if this was long and repetitive. But thinking about this has really changed my perspective on life. I really just wanted to get this out there and see what other people have to say. So, please discuss. (:

Edit: I can't believe the hate I'm getting from this. I'm not saying you're a piece of shit who shouldn't care about your life and just blow it off and do whatever you want. I'm not saying you should live your life to the fullest and make it worth it while you're here. I'm not saying anything. Stop putting words in my mouth and go off of what I clearly said.

This has really got me thinking. So basically what you're stating is that you have to live life to the full because we'll all die one day and have wasted our life but we won't know it because we're dead.

What he is saying is, don't try your best there is no point, when there is a point to everything in life.

I have thought about this before myself. I mean, I believe your conscience somehow stills exists after death (at least for some people), but all in all we will all truly die. If you take the info from the Higgs post in the Breaking News section, apparently they whole universe is going to become unstable and die. Everything everyone knows will be gone and lost forever, unless other universes can be made and reincarnation is possible. If those stories are true about reincarnation, then almost all of our memories will still be lost. All in all, nice topic. An afterlife would be the only thing that would get in the way of this, but I don't truly believe in an afterlife. I believe in spirits and staying on the Earth, but that is totally different.

You talked about no afterlife, but you said you want this non-religious?

We are remembered by our own species. Your legacy lives on after you. I think you're overthinking this. Because you're basically saying everything anywhere is worthless. It's not, it's just evolution.
