32 Bit and 64bit laptop & Cpu's can work on windows 7 but if its a 32 bit cpu
or what you guys call a (old) Computer
you may encounter issues.

Actually Microsoft installed 7 onto a Windows 95 desktop on release of 7 just to prove a point. 32bit installations will only utilize 4gb of ram and 64bit installations will use it all! But you are partly right, we need to remember which one you use.

go buy a win7 oem copy and install it (you will lose all ur data if you downgrade from win8 to 7)
