Hi, I want to upgrade from an i3 to an i7 maybe but is there anything else I will have to do after I change the hardware out? or is it as simple as getting rid of the old one and putting the new one in?

If you plan to change the i3 to an i7 with the same socket type as your current one, then yes it'll be as simple as removing one and putting the new one in. You'll also need some thermal paste to refit the cooler once the new processor is in, and a lint-free cloth to clean the old paste off.

The i7 is mainly used for editing and rendering due to its extra threads, have you considered the i5 for saving money? If you post your full system specs we can give you an idea what would be good value for money.

Why were you wanting to upgrade was its performance not great or did you want to for the sake of it?

If you wanted an upgrade i'd consider the i5-3570 probably the most recommended CPU in the history of mankind.

I'm converting to PC gaming from consoles. My current rig is ok for most games, but I am hoping to be playing GTA V and other demanding games.

Games rely on the graphics card more than the CPU unless its particulary demanding. In any case an i7 isn't needed unless you plan to do heavy editing or rendering. That card should be decent for that game.

Never use "Can You Run It?", it's a stupid website that is wrong about 90% of things.
