Are you stupid?

You cannot compare the two, PC will always have superior graphics.

I just read the topic name. And I thought to myself "This will never happen" Why? Because people are not computer gamers. Period

Yes I know its not a valid argument but its true.

The only downside I see in computers is:

1. Constantly have to purchase upgrades
2. Easier to hack games on a computer.

I don't think Steam Machines will eliminate the console market. Everyone else in this thread is throwing userbases around, claiming accessibility and giving long, drawn-out explanations as to why, but the real reason why it won't work is simple; people are locked in their own mindsets and that will never change.

PC gamers will always be PC gamers and console gamers will always be console gamers.

I'm a PC gamer too, and I think there's absolutely nothing wrong with consoles. With consoles it's a lot more easier to just sit down and play, and usually not worry about framerate issues and hackers and such.
But with PC's, there's a lot more opputunity to customize your expierence for your game. (ex: upgrade your pc, mods, dedi servers)
Consoles are in most cases for more laid back type, as PC's are for the more serious type of gamer.

But overall the thing I absolutely hate most is when the dumbasses come in and say "HURDUR PC MASTER RACE GOML CONSOLE PEASANTS I FFED UR MOM 420 XD". People like them are what gives PC gamers a bad rep. They are annoying have no idea what they're talking about and deserved to be castrated in their sleep.

Consoles aren't going to die anytime soon. If anything they're in their prime of sales/players and will keep building onto new generations.

I did quite enjoy building my two gaming pc's I had, you get a great sense of achievement for building your own pc. But I'm over with the days of hardcore pc gaming, I sold my aging pc a while ago for some cash and got a decent laptop with a dedicated graphics card. Gaming on a pc may seem like it's great and all, I would have to disagree. I like the simplicity of playing a video game on a flat screen tv rather than sitting in an office chair and playing on a desk, it get's tiresome. So thus, I would have to say I like console gaming to a certain degree, because I've aged from the extremely expensive hardware to run a game at max setting on fluid frames per second.

Wiki wrote I myself am a "PC Gamer", and i must say the PC is my opinion will outdo the consoles regardless when regarding specifications, we are constantly getting upgrades and whatnot, whereas consoles are one set spec out of the box, the market for both types of gaming machines is high however the constant mantinance and upgrades the PC requires is just to exspensive and overwhelming compared to the afordability of a "casual gamer" which in my eyes is what a console is aimed at, then again some people like myself do have a "Gaming PC" and an Xbox 360, i like the simplicity of the xbox for games such as GTA however when it comes to World of Warcraft,Battlefeild and Call of Duty, the PC out performs them all, now regarding the amount of users on Xbox and playstation compared to PC is gastronomical. At this moment in time they are 6 million users on steam and around 40 million online on xbox live, now where do the factors come in, PC gaming is free for online usage (unless you pay 9 a month for WoW like me) however 40 a year for online on a mediocre console that is reasonabily priced and doesnt require upgrades is very good in my opinion. Take a typical gaming pc like mine;
    Nvidia Geoforce gtx 660ti
i7 sandybridge proccessor overclocked to 4.9GHz
    24GB DDR3 RAM
    1TB Harddrive
    600W COrshair power supply

1400

Xbox 360: 189.99 plus 40 a year for XBL

Now, you choose, casual gamers vs the hardcore gamer?, i think you will find they are more casual gamers when taking a look at the statistics, but thats just my overview of it.

Here are some more stats(there aren't alot of pc gamers)

PC games played by year, with % change from previous year.
2005 568,968
2006 558,074 (-2%)
2007 2,920,185 (+423%)
2008 5,857,447 (+101%)
2009 6,187,437 (+6%)
2010 15,728,587 (+154%)
2011 29,631,542 (+89%)
2012 33,355,879 (+13%)
Console games played by year, with % change from previous year.
All Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony combined, including portables.
Hardware listed is the year in which the hardware was released.
2005 48,621,847 XBox 360, PlayStation Portable 1000
2006 140,890,341 (+290%) DS Lite, PlayStation 3, Wii
2007 321,998,102 (+229%) PSP 2000, PlayStation Eye

PCs will never replace consoles. The chances of that happening are 1 in 1,000,000,000,000.
