You sir are very ignorant.

Just because they work in a fast food restaurant doesn't mean they "messed up" their life.

They're doing something to earn money, give them some respect.

Hello everyone, I felt the need to put my say into this topic as I did at one time work at a fast food restaurant. Since I quit working at the fast food joint I worked at, I have worked as both a waiter and at a gas station while completing college and I must say, fast food is easily the hardest job I have ever done. Fast food workers are seen as second class citizens by just about every customer for exactly the same reasons you have listed even if they aren't true. I also worked at this fast food chain for two years with out a raise or promotion. By the time I quit working their, I had more knowledge about the restaurant and how to run it then the managers themselves and they knew it. They actually started coming to me for help. The fact that I was making minimum wage and doing their jobs for them is the main reason I quit.
It is of my opinion that fast food workers should be paid well above what they are currently getting paid due to the amount of work and stress that they deal with compared to other easier and better paying jobs. This is of course my opinion but I would like you to respect it and at least picture where I am coming from.

I don't believe fast food workers should be paid over minimum wage for several reasons. If we go into a McDonalds and want to get a burger, we should not have to pay $15 for one. Reason being, if the owner/manager is paying the workers more money, then they will have to raise the price of the food being sold to still earn a profit. I don't want to go to a McDonalds where they're getting paid more than police officers and firefighters, and not have a chance of spending less than $5 when I go to the place. There will be no more dollar menu, there will be less business in the building, making it crash and burn. The less fast food chains there are, the lower the economy will be because there will be less of a flow of money. All because a high school dropout wanted to work at a fast food place (Which requires little to no knowledge at all) and make the money someone would be making in an office situation (Which actually requires some knowledge) And be able to live off it. Sorry for the long post, but this seriously does get on my nerves.

If minimum wage was raised the government would be able to spend less on Social Services. Why should the government pay the consequences. Make the rich companies do it.

Lavish wrote You don't know their circumstances, so don't pretend like you do.
There are some people that drop out to support their ill family.
Some don't go to college because they simply can't afford it.

Raising minimum wage isn't a bad thing.
People are paid minimum wage in a lot of other establishments than just fast food as well.

I agree with everything except that anyone CAN pay for college. My dad grew up from a poor family and received no financial aid, but he worked multiple jobs and got through school. He is now a Marketing Manager at a major venture capitalist firm, making more than most people ever will. Anyone can turn their life around.

I agree with what you said about circumstances. My dad dropped out of high school to help support his family and never went to college. Yet, he has done great with his life.

However, I think the economic effects of minimum wage should be studied before they raise it to like $13.00. I was reading on CNN about how most companies said that even if minimum wage was increased, they would look into robotics to replace them or just slash worker hours by 25%. That is a sign of greed. But simply looking at the effects of raising minimum wage is probably the best thing we can do right now. If it has great effects, then do it. But if it has negative effects, then don't do it.

Raising minimum wage isn't bad, its the fact that middle class workers would soon ask for more money because they saw the lower class workers got paid more. Then it would travel up, which would cause inflation... If there was a way to just raise minimum wage, then do it, but unfortunately there's not, so I don't think minimum wage should be raised...

I work at Sears and I get paid 7.25, I'm a backroom associate and we do the most work out of anyone in the store. The cashiers get paid like 6.25 (something along those lines) + commission. Now I'm not going to say it needs to be raised because of people going to college that have to pay their way through because I'm not in that situation (even though I am in college) I'm just saying it should be raised because most people work their ***** off to make ends meat, and sometimes its just not enough. Like I pay my own insurance and phone bill, I make like 375-480 every two weeks, but when that first paycheck comes it's being used on insurance and my phone bill. Which then gives me like 120-150 dollars left, for gas only. Maybe raising the minimum wage to like $9.25 an hour would be sufficient enough.
