I have an AT&T iPhone 5. And unlocking is not illegal. I had it done on a previous iPhone, I just never got to unlocking this one and I need it for an upcoming trip.

iPhone 5 is factory unlocked you can use with any other provider over seas without unlocking just in the USA it will be locked to the AT&T carrier

What company are you using with the rsim? Because I have the rsim 8 gold and when I put my tmobile sim on it, it still connects to sprints network.
