So if I buy a phat Xbox with a current dashboard I can r-tag it? What would be the difficulty of a average person like me soldering everything and all that, is it possible for me to do it all by myself? And how much would materials cost to do it?

I just have a quick question. What's an R-Tag?

Sure he means a R-Jtag
OT: well if you have not soldered before I'd recommend sending it to someone to do for you saves you failure and other costs and can be cheaper if you don't have anything.
But if you decide to the I'd say med but long.

Yes you can. If you've never soldered before, don't do it.

r-jtag can be done on the latest dash but is harder to install than rgh. r-jtag is supose to bring the jtag's stability back to the latest dash. the r-jtag has more or less instant boot times like the original jtag.

Team-Xecuter wrote QUICK FAQ:
- R-JTAG comes in two flavors - a starter kit and an ultimate kit with all the bells and whistles
- The first release will support Zephyr, Opus, Falcon, jasper
- There will be a Xenon only version
- Boot speeds are similar to JTAG and RGH1 (from instaboot to 10 seconds)
- Full POST Monitoring with RATER and JRP v2
- Dual Nand works fantastic with the DemoN - especially for Stock / Hacked Nand setups
- No more need for RGH1/RGH2
- Works on the very latest dash/kernel versions
- Solid, reliable booting
TL;DR Its the newest form of console exploit. Making the RGH/RGH2 exploit obsolete.

If you haven't had the experience on the small points of an xbox motherboard, I don't suggest going straight to your working console.
I went through 2 xbox's before I mastered soldering the points. Once you get used to it, it's a breeze.
Make sure to use plenty of flux, you can never have to much and you can wipe off excess.
Total materials:
- 15 W Soldering Iron ($12 Radioshack)
- Flux ($7 Radioshack)
- Kynar Wire ($6 Radioshack)
- Rosin core solder (thinner the better $5)
== roughly $30
And then the cost of the rjtag itself/flasher(jrprogrammer)
I would suggest sending it in to get it modified!

It's your call. For me personally, I don't think it's something you should try yourself if you've had very little soldering experience. Just my two cents.
