I live in a small town, great place for hunting, horses, cattle, romping etc. and lots of people don't pretend (like myself) to be country, cowboy or redneck. But most of the people I see at my school or around town, most drive $50k tuned trucks (they are very wealthy) pretend to be country when they are city slicking fools (A majority are guys) who've never got their hands dirty doing manual labor and such. This absolutely drives me crazy, and the worst part is they do it because most girls in my town would rather have a country boy than a city boy. Does this happen anywhere else?

I personally don't see the problem. I mean, if they are lying about certain things about themselves, then I am against that aspect. If they choose to look it or sound it, then so be it. I'm from the south and I try so hard to not look it or sound it. Like, I am trying to lose the accent as best as I can. Just never liked it. Would this throw me under the "country boy" trying to be a "city slicker" category?

I had this happen a lot in my High School. Because of where I lived semi country/ semi not country. You had the people that wanted to be country but lived in the suburbs. Like there was this one kid, he wore camo from head to toe, had a lifted truck, mudded. But he lived in the city...
Need I say more?

You don't really have to live in the country to be country I don't think. As a kid you can't help where you live, your parents decide that. Being country is a lifestyle so to say. So it doesn't really matter where you live. And let people +do+ what they want,in the end it's their decision not yours, not mine, but theirs.

Its a lifestyle you're "raised" into. Of course it matters where you live. A person in the city, has no real-hand knowledge of the country lifestyle, even if they read about it. The parents do choose where you live, so your "raised" into the lifestyle they provide for you. I can't change it and its not my decision for people to fake a lifestyle, but I can rant about it for days on end.
