Words isnt going to describe how all this works, but pictures will. So, enjoy my Word made diagrams and hope this helps.

What is a coax cable: Gives you internet. Plugs into your Modem.
Looks like this

So that cable gives you internet. You really need it in your room. wherever that may be.

So your current setup should look something like this, ive missed out the router. Not really relevant at the moment.
Found my easter egg? Its a joke, dont get mad guys

Need wireless?

So basically, ask your ISP to move your modem to your room or wherever. You will not have the required tools to do this yourself.

Hope you enjoyed my diagrams. Need more help? PM me

COAX isnt just internet, TV airal goes through COAX. He may be connecting to his internet via a phone line 'Copper'

The image I have made is a very basic home network.

With the image below it shows how you can connect your devices to your router with an ethernet instead of wireless. As when you say you want a connection but not paying for it I think you are meaning to be hard wired.

Anyway, you have your modem/router. They may be separate devices or the modem will built into the router.. It doesnt matter.

So your internet comes via your modem, as you have wireless you are either connecting that into your router that will have approximately 4 LAN ports. As you can see in the image the wireless is being broadcasted by the router and 3 of the lan ports are plugged into computers. This leave 1 LAN port free!

You can expand that 1 port to open other ports, The switch as you can see in the image that is in your room connects to the UPLINK port on the switch to the last free port on the router. This switch then allows you to connect multiple devices into that switch that will then connect to your router accessing the internet. Also allowing all the PC's in your house to talk to one another so you can send files across and RDP.

This is what I think your cousin means when he says he has his own connection
