IMHO, Vauxhall, Ford and French are no no. I'd be going with something German or something from Seat. You're budget is what? £12,000 or so for both car and insurance?

Get a nice Seat Leon Mk2 for £4000, slam it and put some alloys on it and you'll still have plenty left over.

this in a different color for just of 10k, personally i like the new corsa, Just a tip diesel cars for first drivers are cheaper to insure and are clearly more fuel efficient, depends what you want to do with your car

Mk2 golf cheap to buy and not to much on the insurance plus when they are modified they are god dam sexy!
