ANYWAYS; It all depends on who you go through and what plans you get. (whether you get road side assistance, collision, etc) Without that, and which company you go through. It will change depending on that

Well considering the 2003-2005 models come with 287 HP stock. 2006-2008 have 300+. I would consider it a sports car. 2 Doors, faster than average car.

I'm not trying to make anyone jealous. I'm just stating it. Just to help out.

Not too impressive. My truck makes around 235 hp at 4250 RPMS, 2010 models make 310 at 5k RPMS lol. I guess stock Ford trucks are sports trucks? Some people would consider it a sports car, others luxury, people like me would consider it just another car.

Anyway, staying on topic here don't spend all of your money on your vehicle. You will wreck it weather it is your fault or someone else's.

You don't need to go 0-60 in 2.7126 seconds or what ever is impressive in the car world, that just means you will get a ticket faster. Since you consider it a "sports car" you will be paying a premium for repairs. Trust me, things will break.

You will have the kids with a loud muffler on their Honda civic trying to race you and you will probably race them and maybe crash if you don't get a ticket.

Sure the girls may or may not be all over you, but if they are because of your car, you don't want those girls. They don't want you, they want your non-existent money. Been there, done that.

I would stay away from it and get yourself something practice that you wouldn't really care about a grocery cart hitting, or some dipstick backing into you. The reason is, I drive a '97 F150 that I have put WAY too much money into it and I find myself not wanting to use it. I bought it to use as a work truck but I won't because it looks so good that if someone left the shovel on the bed side and it slid down and scratched the bed I would have to kill that person.

Again, you don't need to be able to go 200 mph as there is nowhere legal to do that, it will be hard to afford parts when they break, insurance will be high, and any girls that are interested in you because of the car are bad news.

Your 235hp doesn't compare to 287hp. & just because someone gets a nice car doesn't mean that they're going to go out and burn out and go 200mph (which the 350z only goes up to 160) idiot. It seems like you're just jealous. & how in the **** are trucks sports cars? There a sports edition trucks but they aren't sports cars.

It sure as hell does lol, it beats my brothers 5.9L truck. I can't race a car because of the obvious issue- weight. Horsepower don't mean jack when you don't know how to use it. Not only that but you can have all the horse power in the world, but you need torque. You seem to take things to literally here, the 200 mph was an exaggeration, and I am not by any means jealous. I'm a truck guy, cars are no use to me as I am a truck guy. I need to use a vehicle to haul more than my backpack. Not only that I like to make sure I can get over speed bumps lol. What he is going to dump into this 350Z is just about half of what I currently have in my truck (16k).

Well FIRST of all a 350z has a 3.5L V6 pushing out 287 HP? I would hope a 5.9L car or new truck would beat a 3.5 v6.

I have nothing to carry around except for my backpack, a jacket, a hoodie, and gloves for work, nor anyone else so any not get a car that has one extra seat? people be asking for rides too much and this will lessen that.
I probably won't ever go over 100 except for a couple times to have fun on the highway.

People have different views and I respect that and so should you. I'm just trying to figure out what insurance was going to seemingly cost. Not to get into a huge fight if I should get it or not because it's not a fast sports car.

Not at all, trucks are 6k lbs plus (that's just a half ton), trucks are on big tires compared to cars. My truck came stock on 33's. A stock truck will never be able to beat a stock car (in the price range we are looking at here). For ever 10 times my tires in my truck spin, your car may have spun 20+ times.

SRT8 wrote Alright JRJ, i'm going to type some stuff out, and I mean all of it. We can't change your mind, but we can voice our opinions. I'm tired of sitting back and reading all this. Please do take the time to read all of this JRJ.

#1 - According to Jeez, he says the 350Z is not a sports car. The Nissan 350Z represented the fifth generation of "Z" sports cars from this Japanese manufacturer. Not only that, but it is a 2 door coupe and has a good amount of HP being produced from it's engine. The Scion FR-S/BRZ/GT86 is labeled as a sports car, and it makes less than the 350Z. He wasn't trying to make anyone jealous, he is trying to get advice from his friends and community on a car he's been wanting for a very long time. Don't hate on that. He is working and going to school to pay for his car. His daddy isn't going to pay for his car like your daddy bought your Charger. Rant at me all you want, but I will have more respect for JRJ than you Jeez.

2# - Insurance is going to be high, you already know this. I pay $160/month for full coverage on a 2009 G8. I'm only 19 by the way. I have also had 1 speeding ticket. With that being said, depending on who you have, getting a ticket won't raise your insurance because of it being a first time offence. If you can get a student discount, that's awesome. I am going to guess you'll be paying less than $300/month. It all depends on whether or not you get full coverage or just liability, etc. Being in school still, and not driving much, I would get the best coverage at the cheapest price. When you get out of school and can work full time, get full coverage. You will be very thankful, trust me. I only have to pay a $500 deductible on my G8 that took damage from a construction zone, and there is well over $1000 in damage done to my car.

#3 - Gas shouldn't be the greatest of your worries. You already stated you drive very little every day. You will probably have to fill the 350Z up once a week with the miles you drive. I drive like 35 miles to and from work every day. During my work week, I fill up probably every 4 days, but on top of that, I do speed a lot, and do high speed pulls on the highway when I get off work (I get off @ 3am and no cops are out). So if you keep your driving to what you stated, you should only have to fill up once a week. Make sure you keep track of yourself financially too.

#4 - Honestly man, you don't "NEED" a nice car for your senior year. Honestly man, I think your corolla will do you fine. I do believe you can afford that car on a $600/month budget, but I would wait until after senior year, here's why. I had a 2000 Jeep GC from Junior year to Senior year. Most of my friends had cars similar to mine. All of us had low ball cars you could find on craigslist. Now? 1-2 years after I graduated I had my G8, and now own a second vehicle. All of my friends? We all have cars that our parents can't even afford. Mazdaspeed 3's, Cobalt SS', Mustangs, BMWs. I make more than my mom, and have a car that cost just as much as she did. She bought a brand new Nissan Maxima back in '09. I know you want a car that you have dreamed about having for a long time, but believe me when I say, that extra year, will be worth it. Save up a couple more thousand and just keep looking. New deals pop up every day. Look outside of your area, shipping a vehicle is actually very cheap. I do it everyday, and I already have 2 cars. After highschool when you have all the time in the world to hang out with your friends, that is when having a 350Z will benefit you. You could take your parents into a grad gift, that's up to you.

I know you don't have to listen to me, but take what I said in. This is coming from a guy who was, in your shoes. I still don't have my dream car. I am working towards it though. My Sonoma is something I am building on the side as a hobby. When my G8 is paid off, I am going to try and buy a 1996 MKIV Supra. You can get them for cheap, they may not be in the best condition, but parts are readily available all over the net. You can say oh, your out of your dreams buster, but you can't tell someone they can't achieve their dreams. I can get around $10k for my car when it's paid off, and i'll use that and save on top of it for one. You can get a decent one for around $20k. Then i'll have my Sonoma to daily drive. You have to look into the future too, which I know you are.

I know this is a lot to read, but it also took a long time to type out. I only typed all of this out because I want to help you. Message me if you want some more help/addvice. I got you man. BTW, keep your Corolla if you can. If not, sell it when you get the Z.

This helped me out a little more than what you would think. I just want to have fun with the 1 life I have. I can always trade in the car if I can't make the payments on it and get something cheaper and then get one later on in life. I just want to have fun, ya know?

I can go up to the high school and see what the dipsticks do. Generally speaking, high schoolers with sports cars are a pretty good mix for burnouts and racing.

Well for one I don't have a girl friend, and probably won't until college.
2) I have a step dad that is a mechanic, so he will be able to do all that stuff free of service charge.
3) What if I'm not like those high schoolers? I wouldn't even know how to do a burnout in a manual, and why race? What's the point? Prove who's car is faster? if I like my car, I like it. fast or slow

I don't have a girlfriend either with no close prospects of having one, I just simply work too much to spend any time with her.

Parts still cost money, my ball joint costed me 40 bucks, breaks 60 bucks, etc. What if something big goes out? What if your pinion in the rear diff (or front if fwd) goes out? Shocks are pretty expensive too. You will still have to buy oil, tires, etc.

I thought I wasn't like most highschoolers either, but it is pride and ego. Why do you want a nice car? To show off. If you had a few days to plan you probably wouldn't race, but spontaneous opportunities get the best of people. I've raced before, I stopped spinning tires because my tires are expensive (400 bucks each). I have so much pride in my truck because I built it. It was stock then I put the lift on and essentially right now it is a F-250 with the body and engine of a F-150.

The bottom line is you are going to do what you want to do regardless of what we tell you. I am just telling you what problems you will face (with any car). I would get a piece of crap beater car that don't matter if some dipstick hits. If I would have done that I would be sitting a lot better than I am now, in fact I had my uncle look over the trucks at the lot and he was pushing me to buy this ugly Ranger that was only 1250, but I wanted the F-150 for 5k. That drained my bank account then I found out I needed lower ball joints and a ti rod arm. I have to keep up on these problems because you don't just through away a 5k vehicle, if I would have bought that ranger I would have an easy 20k sitting in my safe right now with a piece of crap truck that barely goes down the road. That's better than having a nice truck that needs normal repairs and only having 1-2k in the bank. If you can take anything from what I am trying to tell you, take this. Just because you have 4, 5, 6k to spend on a vehicle does not mean you should. You need to buy something cheap that doesn't mean a whole lot, it won't matter if someone keys your car, it won't matter if have a bad ball joint. It just means it makes another noise and it doesn't look at good as your dream car but you have more money than most kids your age. When you put all this money into your vehicle, what do you have saved aside for your house / apartment? Again, I am just speaking my mind here trying to save someone from the same mistake I made over a year ago and that I am still feeling. I am out of here, good luck with what ever you choose and I hope all works out for you.

RX8. Its not blisteringly fast like your 350z, but it is just as good in the corners. Its about 6s flat to 60, but you can put $$ into it as a summer project and turn it into a mid-high 5's like mine is. RWD for all those burnouts we all know you'll wanna do. 9k rpm redline in the Manny tranny and 230 crank HP bone stock so its no slouch and loud exhaust wise. Plus its technically 4 doors and a 1.3L engine displacement so it'll be cheap to insure. The only downside is you have to take care of it and get one already taken good care of so you're not blowing $$ on parts every month.

They are just as fast as a 350Z. I have a couple of friends who own RX8's and they always complain about having to have it maintained. Always taking it into the shop and what not. One simple repair cost one friend $300, which wouldn't be a good thing for JRJ. I understand where you are coming from, but those rotarys are pretty high maintenance vehicles.

the rx8 is hands down the worst mazda to date. most unreliable in the rx range and looks like poo.

rx7 fd is where its at, but maintaining them is not too fun. gotta warm up, cool down, measure the correct amount of oil to put in with your fuel and they generally drive at higher revs so chew through gas like there is no tomorrow

All this is true, BUT if you know me at all. I've wanted the car since I was 8 years old.

1. I'm not going to be doing burnouts in the parking lot because I will have my parking pass taken away
2. I'm only young once, so why not make it the best it can be?
3. I have a money that is consistent with hours and money. I make about roughly $600 a month. So i will be able to afford the stuff, just don't have much as extra money as I do now.
4. I don't want the girls to like me for my car, if I like it, that's all that matters to me. I couldn't give 2 shits if a girl does or doesn't like my car.
5. I want something nice for my senior year.
6. I'm not wanting to go 200 mph, but I would like a little more speed than what I have now.
7. I'm not going to be driving it recklessly like all these other idiots.
8. If gas goes up, I'll buy a different car, probably a 4 door one. Probably a Chevy Cruze or Ford Fusion, or a Cadillac.
9. I will rarely race it, just something fun to drive.

It might just be a risk I will take, because I will never know will it will take me.

No, Big-red-riding-hood is correct... You may tell yourself you are not going to race, but you're a 17 year old male... You're gonna wanna show off all 210 horses of that "sports" car and you will get in trouble. Your insurance will increase 80+ a month with one speeding ticket in that thing...

Also, you say you make $600 a month, you're INSANE if you think that's enough to cover any car, really. Think about it... Its going to be $200-$300 a month for insurance. IDK if you're going to be paying a loan for it, or if its going to be paid off, so I'll disregard that... $150 give or take for gas a month, depending on how much you drive, obviously. Plus food, plus whatever else you buy for fun, plus if/when you go out with friends and go do stuff... That $600 a month slowly becomes -x with that car payment/insurance.

Verdict: Do not buy that car. It may seem fun and a good idea, but what happens when you go off to college or whatever in a year plus and all of the sudden don't have that job or whatever? DONZOS.

Why not wait 5-6 years and get a newer, nicer one that you can really appreciate more when you're more mature and financially stable? I don't want to tell you how to live your life, but it seems like a dumb idea, in my opinion. It's not worth getting a car like that in high school to show off, its really not.

I make a little over $600 a month and I have a 350z. I pay for my insurance and my gas. Oh, and I don't race. Stop assuming just because someone has a sports car, that their going to race and burnout, etc. I got mine because I like how it looks. Idgaf if it goes fast or not. Your hate and jealousy is obvious.

Lol, sorry Bradying...no jealousy is being given off. Trust me. My car is better than a 350Z (IN MY OPINION). Now, everyone, stop trying hate on me. I'm not trying to make him not buy the car, whether I don't think its a sports car or not, I'm just trying to make him see both sides of the spectrum.

If he wants it, HE WILL BUY IT whether he posts about it on TTG or not. Also remember OP, most people on here, are between the ages of 14-19 (est). So, chances are, they're not paying their own insurance anyways. So either way, you're not going to get much help with that part.

If you want to get the 350, get it. Who cares. I was making sure you know that theres more than JUST BUYING the car. Because it could come back and bite you in the ass

Jeez wrote Well, first of all, lets not get too gong-ho here. A 350z isn't a sports car... Don't try to make us "jealous" and uptalk it.. Sorry. Its the truth

Here is a snip-it from an article that was on the F150forums: "Drivers of Nissan 350Z and Titan, as well as the humble Chevrolet Aveo run the most risk of dying in a crash, while Audi's luxury A6 cruised in relative safety, according to an insurance report Thursday."

Since you consider it a "sports car" you will be paying a premium for repairs. Trust me, things will break.

You will have the kids with a loud muffler on their Honda civic trying to race you and you will probably race them and maybe crash if you don't get a ticket.

You may burn through tons of money because you like to show off and do burnouts in the parking lot so you are now buying tires ever month.

First of all, I just want to say that most of you people don't know what you're talking about.

Okay.

You're insurance is going to be high regardless of what car you choose. You're a new driver and insurance companies will automatically assume you have a higher chance of getting into an accident than someone who has been driving for lets say 5+ years. It also depends on what type of insurance you get. You can get collision, comprehensive, or liability. I'm not going to go into detail about what each one is, if you want to know what they are just Google it. And lastly, insurance companies consider many different things when determining if a person is buying a sports car. They look at engine size, cylinders, horsepower, torque, doors, handling. They look at EVERYTHING. I believe that most companies will consider a "sports car" a two door with at least 300+ hp & 250-300 ft lbs of torque.

Insurance companies aren't clueless when it comes to this stuff, its their job.

EDIT: I'm not saying im 100% correct about everything. Just giving you what I've learned. I take classes in school about car insurance, house insurance, buying apartment, etc..

Jeez wrote Lol, sorry Bradying...no jealousy is being given off. Trust me. My car is better than a 350Z (IN MY OPINION). Now, everyone, stop trying hate on me. Pretty bold thing to say when you dad bought your car dude. Not everyone on here is 14-19 (est). Quit assuming things, still can't believe you would comment saying your car is better... Obviously your daddy bought your car. What would you have gotten had he not bought it?
