I am getting a PVR tomorrow and I mean im not trying to make a monetized career out of youtube but I mean I will be uploading videos etc. I came across this video explaining points of why lets play series might be illegal.

Whats your opinion on this?

._. I mean im not asking for you to watch the videos, buttt I meeeeeeean watching the videos would answer your question.

basically what I got from it is, that youre only playing the game, the content you provide is from a game itself, made by a gaming company and youre showcasing their game. Its not your game.

Its hard to type explain, but the videos explains it pretty well, if youre really interested in it. I mean didnt you hear about Nintendo and streams a few months ago?

According to outdated copyright laws, "Let's Play" series' are essentially breaking most copyrights. Jeez, did you even watch the video before mindlessly replying? '

I personally think, like he(ReviewTechUSA) said, it doesn't negatively affect the companies, so until it does they won't really try to enforce the copyrights they have. However, Nintendo recently had a "Lets Play" video of Mario Party 10 taken down.

I don't think monetizing videos should be such a big thing, and that's why 99.9% of YouTuber's videos are trash anyway. Money is always the culprit that destroys quality/destroys ANYTHING good, in literally EVERY aspect of life.

Technically speaking if they did not get permission to upload them and they have monetized them it is considered illegal. I only watched the first 5 minutes of that video and I think he covers it pretty good, it should not be illegal. The reason is, the product is the game, you have to buy the game and that is where they make there money, so therefore by you uploading a "lets play" video, you are not taking money from them, but rather you may be giving them money because you are essentially advertising that game for them for free.

By definition, monotizing those videos is illegal but I don't see where anyone would go after you unless they REALLY wanted you to pay some hefty fines or possibly do a little bit of jail time. Here is Youtube's requirements for you to monetize a video:

You must meet these minimum requirements in order to monetize your videos:
Your content is advertiser-friendly.
You created the content or have permission to use it commercially.
You are able to provide documentation proving you own commercial rights to all audio and video content.

You most likely do not meet the last two requirements therefore making it not able to be monetized. Just for giggles I uploaded a video with a popular song that I did not have the rights to just to see what would happen (it is literally just the song with a black screen) and monetized it. Within 2 days I got an E-mail saying that the video did not meet the requirements to be monetized and they took the audio off. With that I deleted the video because it was just a test. Now I made another video showing the progress I made on my truck in 1 year and I used 2 songs. They picked up on 1 and sent me an email but did not withdraw the audio, instead they put the advertisement of "buy this song now for X" at the bottom.

If you want to do it, I would say go for it but don't expect anything out of it. It sounds like you just want to do it just for fun, but if you want to be the next famous youtube gamer, realize that for every one of those, there are thousands of unsuccessful people. That's not to discourage you, that is just a realistic point of view but by all means, do what you want to do and hope you can live by it in the end.

well technically when you purchase a game they hold the rights to the content. Which means they have the power to take it down unless you find a educational purpose for the content.

If you receive money for the video, portraying the companies content they are within the right to charge you for posting videos or get the video taken down
