Mercedes_Benz wrote "Typical American response will be: Why didn't the 8 year old have a gun to defend herself?".I don't post on the forums much anymore but that was a pretty idiotic thing to say to be perfectly honest. Not even sure why you would say something like this. You sound like a pretty narrow minded person. Consider opening yourself up to more than stereotypes, you'll benefit from it.

A reply you'd probably get to your post: "Because it's our right as Americans to have guns and bla bla bla excuses *some personal shit* something about the government rules etc. etc."

Crazy how shit like this even happens.
Parents should have been a lot more careful with the placing of the gun.

This is awful, how can their parents/siblings just leave their weapons laying around for a kid to just pick up.

That weapon should have been locked in a safe.

It is your right to own a firearm to protect your family and yourself. It is NOT, however, your right to own a firearm and leave it accessible to children who then shoot dead their 8 year old neighbor.
If the US had stricter gun law, there would be far fewer deaths via people with guns. It's factual, quite literal, there is no escaping this. "Criminals could still get guns" yes, they do elsewhere in the world, too. But gun crime is far lower elsewhere, funnily enough.

"The boy's family has not commented on the shooting."
They can't say anything. He knew what the gun would do and not only did he kill her he killed another kid too. It's really sad actually.
