Both are good builds, the X99 ones will be better for productivity such as rendering and editing as they have more cores and threads, while still being good at gaming etc.

X99 is the platform, of the three builds i provided the bottom two use a 5820K, which has 6 cores and 12 threads which will benefit productivity and general compute performance

yes, X99 is the chipset that the processor runs off of, like LGA 1150 for the i7-4790K and LGA 1151 for the new Skylake processors.

If you're rendering for engineering will you be using Solidworks or other programs? If you are then you can even fit a 6-Core 5820K into budget.

Zayev's [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] would be the suitable one for you then.
To have an i7-5820K, you need to have a different motherboard to get the correct socket for the CPU.
Both of the 2nd and 3rd builds that Zayev put were good. I would take the 3rd just for the extra RAM which you would most likely benefit from considering your use of the computer.
