Alright, this is a rant about the stupid ass movies that are SUPPOSED to fall under the "horror" genre.

While I love a great, twisted film, a lot of movies recently have severely missed the mark.

Allow me to elaborate.
They will advertised the creepiest parts of a movie, but, in the film itself, it's surrounded by horrid attempts to scare and freak out the viewer. A good example of this is The Visit. Upon seeing the preview, I was thoroughly excited to see this movie. After seeing Insidious 3 earlier in the year, I was ecstatic.

Needless to say, I left the theater with deep regret of spending a penny of my money on that film. It was not scary, it was not funny, it was a little weird, and completely confusing. M. Night Shyamalan has had a rough streak recently, but this film was widely believed to propel him back to elite status.

Another disappointing "horror" movie was Krampus. I expected to walk out of the theater to be scared about the thought of Christmas.

I walked out regretting even considering seeing the movie. I would refuse to accept it even if it was free.

Then, this "Pride+Prejudice+Zombies" movie that's coming out. I literally cannot put into words how stupid this movie idea is. The execution? Probably worse.

Taking two completely different ideas from opposite sides of the spectrum is a bold and risky move, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I think this movie will be the one that will cause even more caution to combining widely different ideas for a long time to come.

On a side note, the first Horror movie of 2016, The Forest, was extremely scary. Hopefully this sparks a decent year for horror movies, instead of the disappointing reign at the end of last year.

I can actually agree with you on this, nowadays all these "horror" are stupid shit. Remember watching The Gallows as everyone said it was scary and this and that and was most pathetic thing I've seen.

In my opinion I would say horror or genuine horror doesn't exist anymore and they need to quit remaking or doing Friday the 13th. Jason's had his moments.

Forgot to add that in there, but yes. Real horror is gone. The only reason the Gallows freaked me out, was because I had used a sticky, green plant before I had went and seen it.

Remakes are trash. Most of the "horror" movies today are just recycled ideas with a few tweaks here and there.

I know that this isnt about video games but I do agree with you on the film genre. BUT the game genre is so cheesy, jump scares to me are NOT scary.. five nights at freddys NOT SCARY.. you want a good horror game a GOOD example of what horror is Layers of Fear is great. Jump scares = cheesy and not scary, if anything they are annoying. Encapsulating yourself in an environment you know you cant escape.. scary.

Even though it's not about films, I still agree. The Evil Within was stupid as shit. I played 5 minutes of that game and took it back. The whole horror genre, games or films, has gone to shit.

The twist would've been better if it wasn't preceded by a bunch of stupid shit.

That's like a rose being at the bottom of a huge pile of shit.

It's still a rose, but not as pretty and definitely doesn't smell nice.

This is why:

When is the last time a rated R horror movie came out? It's been a while

They are all aimed towards teenagers now, so they have to be PG-13.

So in turn, they have to be a less like an original horror film, to get rated PG-13.
