Then don't listen to it?
Stop listening to the radio.
I enjoy "hype" music when I'm out partying, but I'm not going to sit here and act like it's the most lyrical music.
There's a time and place for just about ever song.

I agree with you 100%. Especially regarding rap music. Rap music used to make a statement. It served a purpose and only applied to a certain culture of people and what they dealt with. Now, I feel as though it's all about self-image. Granted there are a handful of rappers out there that stand out, but as a group I feel they are severely lacking in comparison to how it was in the 90s and even late 80s.

I put the blame on advances in technology, which allows literally anybody to become a musician. For example, Fetty Wap would likely not be famous if it weren't for the producers that at least attempted to make him sound good. I personally can't stand his music; it physically hurts my ears listening to his 'music'.
Sadly, an artists popularity is all based on who listens to them. I also put blame on my generation and younger for having a bad taste in music; giving fame to those who don't deserve it.
Just my two cents

It really depends at what kind of music you are listening to. If you choose to listen to rap, then yes; all you are going to hear is songs about drugs, having sex, and getting high, but there are lots of other genres of music that aren't necessarily in the same boat. Just depends on what you are selecting to listen to.

There are still plenty of artists that are rapping to the "genre" you wish was, music is changing just got to get used to it, they're giving the people what they want and it's working. If you can't see that just stick to the throw backs (people still bump those too) can't beat the classics, but new is better in this situation.
