Sanctorum wrote You're better off buying from within NZ. What's your budget in NZD?
Below 2 grand however I have a feeling parts will be a fair bit more expensive bought locally

GTX 970 as placeholder for afterket RX 480 or GTX 1060. It's easier and cheaper to buy locally. Shopping from the US would be expensive.
Do you think it would be worthwhile just buying say the graphics card and processor from overseas?

Doubt it. Shopping would be expensive and I think you may even have to pay quite a bit on tax, not sure though. It'd end up being more expensive if you bought from US.

Alright, thanks for all of the help it's really appreciated. +repped you earlier. Last question: What would the pros of the 6700K and 1070 be over the 6600k and 970?
I can get a 6700k in NZ for $200 more which is only a little more than the price difference in the US. The GTX 1070 windforce is about $300 extra.
Another thing which may be relevant is that when this new computer gets outdated I'll likely just try to upgrade it rather than build a new one again.

6600K will be fine for gaming. 6700K has hyper threading so is better in multi-threaded tasks and games that utilise the extra threads. You don't need to spend the extra, but you can if you want. Don't get the 970, like I said, it's just a place holder. Get an aftermarket RX 480 or GTX 1060. Either of those will be fine for 1080p, the GTX 1070 is better but again, not really necessary.
This system won't be out dated for a good while, especially if you go with a 6700k and/or GTX 1070.

I think I'll just go all out and get the 6700K and the 1070. If you have time could you please make one more list with both of those on it, or else just let me know which model of 1070 to choose? Thanks again
