I personally like the design. It has a deep message. I would get it on a black shirt.

No. The message is wrong.

Attributing a cause to a group of people posthumously is both silly and offensive to their memory.
Native Americans didn't die for the freedoms people in the US have today. They died trying to defend their homes. They weren't thinking "I stand in opposition to this group of invaders, but I will die for the freedoms their descendants will one day inherit." They were thinking, "These people are trying to invade my land and kill my family and I will die before I see that happen."

This top would be better off saying, "Pogroms are bad and your ancestors were too."

When it comes to atrocities like this, there seems to be a trend for how people react over time. Immediately after the event it's revenge, reprisal, retaliation, then half a century down the line it turns into recompense and reparations, and then a century later it's remembrance, with the initial atrocity neither avenged, nor atoned for.

The only differing factor is time. But the US has grown so accustomed to life without having to worry about Native Americans that it wouldn't do well to rock the boat, yet those bones still lie buried in mass graves without having been avenged and what do people do now to show how outraged they are? Buy a t-shirt.

Other than that the design on a top doesn't particularly matter. How often do you pay enough attention to the design on a person's top to recognize that it has a meaning and contemplate that meaning? Probably once a day at the very most.

[quote="Pidge"]No. The message is wrong.

I Beg to differ. This country was built off of genocide, violence and injustice. It started with the Natives, then the African American slaves and then all the other ethnic immigrant groups that followed & migrated to this country. The whole ideology was and still is that whites are supreme to every other race and that all the other races that are not white were inferior. This whole country was built off white lies & the true history is not taught in your everyday texts books. So for you to say its best to not rock the boat is complete utter ignorance. Try saying this to an disenfranchised African American whose family were slaves in this country "to not rock the boat" Whose family has been treaty unfairly for over 100 yrs to not even have equal rights today. Hence the viral "Black Lives Matter Movement thats taken this country by storm.

I'm sorry but it seems you've living under a rock. Now let's get back to the message of the shirt. "Died for your Freedom" For people that does truly know the history of this country they would instantly understand that the message is mocking & referring to the military industrialist complex. Where their message when a soldier dies while defending corporate interest not our freedom is "Died for our freedom." So this design beautifully highlights and draws interest in what the message really actually portrays and draws light to the dark history of this country. The designers were genius. This actually honors the Natives for it reveals the true history.

To answer your question............ "How often do you pay enough attention to the design on a person's top to recognize that it has a meaning and contemplate that meaning?"

"Everyday........ Hence the fashion industry........ Which makes multi billions a year"
All it takes really is a super star celeb to wear the shirt to get the message across to the masses.

Apparently I lost you somewhere in the middle of what I was saying, I admit that what I was saying was meant to come across as more mocking and sarcastic than it did.
I don't blame you for misunderstanding.

So for you to say its best to not rock the boat is complete utter ignorance. I said,
...the US has grown so accustomed to life without having to worry about Native Americans that it wouldn't do well to rock the boat, yet those bones still lie buried in mass graves without having been avenged and what do people do now to show how outraged they are? Buy a t-shirt.

I'm not saying that people shouldn't rock the boat. I'm saying that buying a t-shirt is not rocking the boat.
When 'rocking the boat' back when revenge was on the minds of people who cared involved killing people, your definition today is to buy a t-shirt.
This doesn't seem to me like a great way to change the world even if you are right.

That was my point.

You can't debunk a lie by propping up another lie against it. Neither have died for your freedom.

The US soldier who dies overseas fighting a terrorist network which acts like a hydra is no more preserving the freedom of the US than a native american who died defending their home did to purposefully instigate the beginning of those freedoms being crafted.

They are both lies.

To answer your question............ "How often do you pay enough attention to the design on a person's top to recognize that it has a meaning and contemplate that meaning?"

"Everyday........ Hence the fashion industry........ Which makes multi billions a year"

The fashion industry would make billions of dollars every year whether or not they put meaningful quotes on their tops. It is usually individual people or organisations making tops with particular meanings to push an ideological agenda. Just because people buy these tops under the assumption that people will read them doesn't mean that people do. People do have the ability to be wrong.
