This is one way to start a argument.
Me along with quite a few others have served and are active duty on this site.
Being a officer, and being a soldier are TWO completely different things. You don't see officers going across the globe to be in a different territory for a term do you? No.
Learn what the **** you're talking about before you speak, and yes plenty of people genuinely go up to officers and thank them daily. But you wouldn't know that would you?
Sure everyone is entitled to their own opinions I get that, but some things should be kept to themselves.
Bring the hate it always happens
Preach!
Thank you for that.

Have you every had a family member in the military or friend? If so you would know that on Christmas and thanksgiving or any holiday they could be called out and shipped anywhere in the world! I had a friend who died fighting for your freedom to post that. I don't know what country your from, but the armed forces should be respected.
Thanks to anyone who has served or who is currently serving in the armed forces.

EDIT: let me add on a little more, see i wouldn't have gotten as mad if you would've said it differently.
Comparing law enforcement to active duty military is something you do NOT do.
You could've simply said that officers do not get enough respect for what they do, which isn't always a lot, but you never know..
He was just comparing the police to the army as a way of saying there are other dangerous jobs besides just being in the army and that they too deserve praise and credit.
I don't think that he was saying that being a police officer is more dangerous than being a soldier, which it can definately be, depending on what role you're doing in the army. A female serving in the army who's a cook or doesn't work in the frontline has basically no risk whatsoever, yet they still get a lot of praise for being a soldier.
If you wanted a job more dangerous than a soldier, there's lots of them. A lumberjack for instance. I've never heard anyone say thanks to all the lumberjacks that cut down trees which allows us to get desks and chairs and what not.
To be honest, it depends on where you're from for how much you value the military and what they do. Where I'm from, paramilitaries plant bombs in military bases and blow up their trucks and the army is absoluted hated by the majority of people who live here. So obviously I find it hard to read a thread glorifying soldiers.
This topic itself is literally asking to start arugments. Not everyone around the world likes their military in the same way that most Americans do and it's even stranger to have someone from Ireland thanking American soldiers for serving.

Interesting how you're comparing a life where you potentially have to use a gun to shoot another living breathing human being because you don't want them to hurt the people you're fighting for to a life of a person that's fighting trees to the death.
Nobody's saying being a lumberjack isn't important, I think at least lmao. And I can tell you that he wasn't comparing an enlisted person to an officer because he was saying how similar they are. He was probably just being ignorant since they both "use guns" and "protect peace". You're trying to show jobs that are worse like lumberjacks, but I don't think anyone ever brought up the military being the most dangerous job. Nobody said it had the most fatalities either, that's just you trying to justify the fact that you don't like them.
You brought up the military but then said Army, which is just a branch of the military. Can you tell me what you dislike about the navy? Or the airforce? Or the coast guard? Because you're throwing around the word Army a lot.
Oh, and thanks to all the lumberjacks out there. :^)
(Edit:) also, that graph shows little to no information. Can you elaborate that a little bit? Average of what year? In total, or in the last year? And it says US military, but just lumberjacks in general. Is that just US lumberjacks? Where was this information taken from? How reliable are the sources? thanks in advance

Seeking attention much? Explain why you "dislike" the police? Because i am willing to bet you had a bad experience with police because you were rude and then ended up writing you or arresting you so now you "don't like them" because they did their job.

He's probably one of the people that sit outside a police station recording them to provoke a reaction, then when he gets one cries about it and posts it on youtube, saying how the officer was trying to take away his rights, and that we need to stand up

The majority of soldiers have absolutely nothing to do with fighting and are nowhere near close range combat. They're cooks, engineers, medics, officers, dog handlers and so on. Very few are actually within shooting range and have to kill other people.
And the people within shooting range, are armed with the best gear on the planet. Bullet proof vests, helmets and incredibly accurate rifles against people who have no armour, education or any military training. Not all the people you're also shooting necessarily want to harm America. Otherwise they'd be in America and you'd be shooting them and not the other way around. You're in their country, remember.
You probably haven't seen a lumberjack at work before, hands down the scariest job on the planet. The majority of people who're killed are crushed to death by 20ft trees and their bodies are completely destroyed. Others are killed by their chainsaws, meaning they're literally sawed to death which would also be unimaginabley painful and leave their bodies in a horrible state. At-least if you're killed in a warzone, your body isn't too badly damaged (most of the time) and you're buried with honour.

I was using a lumberjack as a simple example. I could use lots of others but I've met lumberjacks before and seen them work so I thought I'd use a job I actually know about instead of some random job I have no experience with.
Trznce wrote And I can tell you that he wasn't comparing an enlisted person to an officer because he was saying how similar they are.
Of course he was comparing a police officer and a soldier because they're similar. Both of them protect their country, carry weapons and stop terrorists/criminals. He's trying to say that police officers deserve a similar amount of respect and praise as soldiers, which is a very valid point.
Trznce wrote He was probably just being ignorant since they both "use guns" and "protect peace".
They both do use guns and protect peace. That's not being ignorant. Officers use guns to protect people from criminals within their country, soldiers use guns to protect their country from enemy soldiers outside their country. There's not a massive difference. Both are pretty dangerous jobs and could get you killed either way.
Trznce wrote You're trying to show jobs that are worse like lumberjacks, but I don't think anyone ever brought up the military being the most dangerous job.
The user you originally quoted said that soldiers don't deserve as much respect and praise as they get because it's just a job. A postman doesn't celebrate when he delivers the post and a soldier shouldn't be praised, nor should thet celebrate when they do their job. They signed up for it and they know what is consists off. Why are they praised and awarded for doing their job? Because it's considered an extremely difficult and dangerous job which requires a lot of bravery to do. My point was that there are harder jobs which require more skill and bravery and don't get the recognition or praise they deserve and soldiers get too much.
Trznce wrote Nobody said it had the most fatalities either, that's just you trying to justify the fact that you don't like them.
I was using fatalities as a way to show that there are other jobs more dangerous than the army.
I have nothing against the army or anyone serving in it. I just dislike the fact that someone working in the army (a job with little to no entry requirements that almost anyone can join) get topics made all the time thanking their services when other jobs deserve it more.
Trznce wrote You brought up the military but then said Army, which is just a branch of the military. Can you tell me what you dislike about the navy? Or the air-force? Or the coast guard? Because you're throwing around the word Army a lot.
That's because we're from a different country and speak different variations of the same language. Where I'm from, we have an extremely small navy and our air-force is basically non existent (24 air crafts I think). When I say the army, I mean the people who fight on the ground and not the navy or air-force because they're so small near me.

Sources are extremely reliable, taken from US surveys comparing US logging deaths from (1992-2013) and US Military deaths from (1980-2010). The graph also shows plenty of information. That number along the left is the number of injuries that have caused deaths per every 100,000 workers in that job section.

Maybe because they put their lives on the lines for the safety of everyone elses. Because they leave their homes and families to go sit in some shit hole third world country to be shot at every day so you can have the luxuries you do. They do the hard shit that nobody else wants to do, but someone needs to. Warriors deserve the utmost respect. You trackin'?
And tons of people genuinely thank police officers every day. I'm extremely grateful for them, and the shit they put up with and go through.
