Illustrated wrote Yeah thats where I'm torn. I mostly use my rifle for recreational target shooting. But It'd also be my go-to for home defense. So the MK12 would be better for fun shooting at the sandpits, but the MCX would be better home home defense. I wish I could afford both lol.
I would go for the home defense, you never know what can happen.

Glock- wrote If you want something for home defense I would suggest Daniel Defenses Mk-18. It is an SBR and fits your needs. It rocks a basic quad rail with a low profile gas block incase you want to swap barrels or rails down the road or even swap out the rail for a free float SBR.
Just checked out that MK18 and it looks like exactly what id want. Ill have to check it out a bit more when i get out of work.

Illustrated wroteDaniel Defense is one of the best companies out there. They come with a hefty price tag but I'd rather pay for a good rifle that will cover my ass in the field.Glock- wrote If you want something for home defense I would suggest Daniel Defenses Mk-18. A bull pup might be a better option for you as well. I was torn between an SBR for home defense and a standard to long barrel rifle as a bug out type rifle. A bullpup has a standard 16" barrel, but it is cut down 6+". If you look at the picture I posted, it has a 16" barrel which is the same length as your standard AR-15. It saves length by having the mag load in the rear so you can cut most of the stock out.
IWI Tavors are great guns, the only issue is that they only come in 5.56 right now. At the 2016 shot show they did release a .300 black out.

I like the idea of bullpups but not really my style. I want to stay with the AR platform because what im used to, and what i use. And nothing wrong with 5.56!

I tend to stay away from .22 caliber bullets lol. I will always take a .30 cal over a .22 but everyone has their preferance.
