I'm iffy on this.

I'd say @ minimum know basic phrases or questions you'd use on a daily basis.

I'm sure after living somewhere long enough you'll gradually learn the language and meet people who'd help you further.

It depends on whether or not you consider communication with difficult people a part of a customer service person's job.

I'm torn to be honest. I think if you go for a job in customer services then this should be something you expect to happen.
Especially considering the easiest way to learn a language is to move to a country where it is spoken by the majority of people.

Otherwise are we going to have to make it mandatory for people to know a language before they go on holiday to another country?
The same problems arise there.

I remember watching a video where a white lady was yelling at a Spanish lady for speaking Spanish and told her to "speak american". It made my head hurt .

I just think knowing a single language entirely should be mandatory, forget all other languages and have one reign supreme, that way there is no confusion. I guess I could see the benefits to knowing the language of the location you're wishing to live within, as it would be quite ignorant to go to a country expecting to just live in your own little bubble, excluding yourself from the social areas around you.

Won't happen, there's still a lot of accents and dialects.
One main language would be impossible.

No because the quickest way to learn a language is to live in the country so you can actively use it.

To be honest I disagree here, I mean a lot of people learn a language by being in the country. Some people just do not want to learn it which is fine but to make it mandatory is like taking away a part of their own freewill.

I think learning a new language is relatively easy, so I kind of agree and disagree as English is apparently one of the hardest language to learn.

unless you are in quebec where its 100% impossible to get a job without knowing french then yeah its required but should be mandatory hell f*cking no needing to know a different language to do sh*t is pointless and should not even be a thing imo english should be the main language which people should already know the basic english(old english not the english the kids today use) but if you are going to be in like a 3rd world country or mexico cuba china japan russia ect where that language is first then yes it helps all this is imo but like i said earlier in this in quebec its 100% impossible for an english speaking quebecer to get a job(which is why i became my own boss) because no place would hire me so needing to know multi language is dumb and pointless when about 90% of the world uses english(tourists)

No but you also cannot be mad at people who have trouble communicating with you.
