I do not believe you need to be fluent.
Hosted a foreign exchange student who didnt speak a lick of english before coming here. Spoke for months in Spanish with her translating just about everything. Didnt really mind. Instead, I looked at it as an opportunity to learn more about her culture and language. Really paid off!

Wren wroteCoushy wrote Yeah man genius idea syrian refugees shouldnt be allowed to leave the country before mastering the language and culture in the country they're escaping to imo
The fact you even support Syrians entering our country any more is hilarious.
I assume we're not from the same country. and if you think syrians and other refugees shouldnt be allowed to seek asylum in other countries you're either ignorant or insane

I think he's from the UK considering he said, "within the UK people in the north speak differently to those in the south right? But we can still understand each other because we speak English"
And when it comes to the UK and Europe at large I think he's right. There is a difference between saying that Syrian refugees shouldn't be able to enter any country, or group of countries, and saying that they should only be able to enter certain countries.
I don't think Wren is saying that they must stay in Syria, but that there are better and worse options for which countries they should go to.

Which would be a fair argument if there were better options

I guess that depends on what you mean by 'better.'
I would say a safe country closer to where they are fleeing from with the same general customs, values, beliefs, and if not language then at least a similar language, is a better option than sending them to a place where all of these things are the complete opposite but has better housing standards, for example.

Vial wrote I think thats stupid tbhI agree with Vial, I'm Irish and passed my Irish exams in school by 2%. I know no irish yet we live in Ireland.
Im irish and can only speak a few words in irish doesnt mean I shouldnt be allowed to live here.
Sometimes people come to these countries to learn the native language face to face instead of by word off a book

Of course.. Look at Syria.. Like 95% of the refugees are located in safe neighbouring countries.. but these countries only have a certain capacity as they have already accepted millions of refugees and they are all generally poorer than the countries in the westeejit wroteCoushy wroteeejit wroteCoushy wroteWren wroteCoushy wrote Yeah man genius idea syrian refugees shouldnt be allowed to leave the country before mastering the language and culture in the country they're escaping to imo

Qatar, the UAE and Saudi Arabia haven't taken a single refugee.
Firstly we can start by getting these countries to do their part, and once they do - if extra help is still needed - then western nations like the US, UK, France, and Germany can provide humanitarian aid to the countries which need fiscal help when it comes to taking in refugees.
I'm not suggesting we shirk our ethical responsibility to help, I'm simply suggesting that we help in different ways.

Political tensions between the countries means it wont ever happen, there is no way to force them to do their part. ++ They have not signed the refugees convention and it is unlikely they will ever accept any refugees. I agree we should help in different ways but when UN doesnt even get 1/3 of the money they need to be able to help the refugees something is extremely wrong
