So I bought a pair of shoes off DHGate about 2 weeks ago. They were due to land about 5-6 days ago. I received a letter from customs saying that they have seized the product because it is counterfeit and will be destroyed. What should/can I do now?, Can I get a refund or ask the seller to resend another pair?

If they are counterfeit, why would you want the seller to send another pair? I would get a refund

Contact the seller personally. Explain what happened and give proof of the letter and then sort it out from there.
And/or contact customs too

1. Your fault from buying for DHGate because they make some of the worst fakes I've ever seen.
2. You may have a case here because it is illegal for them to search and open your package unless there is suspicion of a weapon or something that can cause harm.

You bought from one of the most known seller of fakes on the Internet. That's your own fault. Try to get a refund, that's the only thing you'll be able to do.

Contact DHGate support, they handle things very well and will sort you out. I've had an item that i've purchased off of DHGate go missing, so I contacted them and was sent a replacement.

wut... Ever since 9/11 packages that are shipped to America internationally are allowed to be open. First-Class International for the most part aren't open but I honestly doubt OP spent upwards of $150 for shipping. You can buy something as simple as candy and the package (not the wrapper) would be open to make sure. It's 100% legal for them to open the packages and see what it is. If they were only going to open packages that were suspicious of being a weapon, that would lead to so many illegal things getting into the country as they could very well be hidden in something that says "earbuds" or anything of the sort.
