and 16gb will be beneficial as you wont have to upgrade down the line and is sufficient for nearly every task at hand

Will bottleneck affect my pc drastically? And is 16gb needed. I am planning on getting this pc and upgrading it I could get an extra 8gb in a few months time but it would be a while till i upgrade the graphics card.

Is OP going with Ryzen though? Even if OP were going with Ryzen, does it require 16GB 3000MHz, or would it run with just 4GB 2133MHz? I never said you shouldn't take speed/capacity in to consideration, but there is no minimum requirement which OP seems to think. So yes, the only requirement here is that the RAM be DDR4 288-pin.

You can use Windows 10 for free. You can buy keys from plenty of places for £20-25 if you want an activated version of Win10. First recommendation, don't buy a pre-built. They're shit. Either build your own, have someone build for you, or just buy a used system from Gumtree or something. You're also going to want an SSD.

Depends. R5 1600/2600 is a solid choice, R5 1400 might be a good fit also though. If you're going to build a system yourself, I can recommend a parts list but we'd need more info from you first.

Correct, OP does not need 16GB RAM. The only requirement for an i5-8400 is that he use DDR4 288-pin. What don't you understand about that? OP thinks 16GB is some sort of minimum requirement with an i5-8400, which is not true, because there are no minimum requirements on speed or capacity.
