How do other people and citizens obtain stolen valor from recent deaths of the army or in general?

It would seem like this would be something hard to steal but I'm starting to see it quite often in public and in videos on YouTube.

All people have to do to 'steal valor' is wear a United States Armed Forces (Navy, Marines, Army, Air Force, etc.) uniform and walk around with the uniform on and just pin a few of their grandparents' medals to their chest.

It is a federal crime to impersonate a member of the armed forces in the US punishable with upto 5 years in prison. This is done (stolen valour) by wearing non issued military clothing in public trying to pass as active serving military personnel.

I think it's a joke and completely disrespectful.

Crazy, I never thought about someone using their family member's valor. That's still sickening!

Yeah it's just what they call impersonating a member of the armed forces. Same way people impersonate police officers. Not nessecarily stealing a specific persons credentials.

Some people would do anything for a veterans discount while risking 5 years in jail :|
