microsft have recently added a 3 year extention to any 360 no matter what the age so just ring them up and they fix it you for free in around 2 weeks. I just did it and got a brand new xbox 360 back ...

Well i had the same sort of thing i completely disconnected my xbox and then removed the HDD then left it for 30 mins.

Replugged everything back in and it was fine.
