People keep saying to adjust my laser POT to around 1000 ohms but i have no idea what that means, when i test it with my multimeter it says things like 7.5 x 10k ohms, what do i need to do?

im using a multimeter right now and have it around 450 because it wasnt doing anything... and it still wont spin, like it spins for literally a split second and quits. Any ideas?
