all headphones are the **** same. every company just puts a different name on them to make that person rich for their name on the headphones. that's it. if you go to kmart and buy dr dre headphones, and at walmart and buy $1 off-brand headphones, listen into both of them and tell me the difference in between the 2. nuff said.

I can tell you that the beats would sound way better. But that's not the point of our argument, which is the beats line offers very low price/performance ratios compared to its competition. Anyone can make the argument that a headphone with sound is infinitely better than one without and win.
If you do some research on the internet and ask around, eventually you'll find that most headphones are made by original equipment manufacturers in China who also turn around and sell them rebranded or debranded for much cheaper. Believe me, there are some pretty amazing headphones out there for the price, but we can say with experience that the beats are not one of them.

Now you're being ridiculous. Very few notable headphones have celebrity endorsements. The only celebrity headphones I would buy are the AKG Q701s. They look very unique and fun and apparently made small revisions on the sound of the K701.
Beats will sound better than $1 headphones. If you think they don't, you've heard neither and are kidding yourself. If you think all headphones sound the same, you've never listened to headphones.

Budget: $100 (Don't want to drop $200 just for music)
Music preference: Metal/Rock and Rap every now and then
Type / form factor and portability: Earphones not headphones, Inner ear too

Look at the Hisoundaudio Crystal. These may be a bit too bassy, but they fit the bill very well from what I can tell, especially if you're willing to sacrifice a little treble quality in favor of everything else that's great about these IEMs. Isolation's great, build's good, and the sound is amazing.
Here's a review by a someone who really knows what he's talking about:

There are tons of options less than $100, though. The cheaper Vsonic GR06 (also available from Frogbeats) would be another great choice.

Vsonic GR06 (Haha I've been giving these a lot of attention) if you want an IEM and the Sony XB500 for over-ears. The XB500 will make your rap and hip-hop sound fantastic, but won't do so well with metalcore. You will not get better bass for what you pay, though. If you want something that will be better-suited to all of your music, get the IEMs or check out the Panasonic HTF600.

You have literally no idea what you're talking about.
Here is a headphone with an electrostatic driver:

Here's what it looks like dissected:

That looks completely different from dynamic drivers, which Beats have:

^^^That's actually an AKG K240 driver (I couldn't find a Beats driver, but they look completely different). Very few dynamic drivers actually look similar:

^^^That's an AKG K701. Even within the same brand, the drivers look completely different.

^^^Beyerdynamic T1 and their Tesla driver

^^^Sennheiser HD600 (I think).
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
^^^Typical Grado driver. This one is in an HF-1 which isn't so typical though.

^^^Audez'e LCD-1
Aaaand to end this, here is a picture I took of the HE500's driver:

So put simply, there are very few drivers that look alike, and by the transitive property, headphone companies don't use the same $1 drivers. And as much as I dislike Beats, one would have to seriously be hearing-impaired to not know the difference between Beats and the $10 special at Walmart.
