1yoyo105 wrote Quick question. What would you think in comparison of a pair of Sennheiser HD 448s vs. any pair of Beats?

It's like comparing a Hummer to an Aston Martin. The HD448's are effectively the opposite of the Beats in terms of sound, meaning strong bass isn't really their forte. What's your budget?

And for $150 dubstep IEM's, you could look at the Monster Turbines (get them at the outlet store for $50, don't bother buying them new) or if you want a definitive upgrade from those, the Klipsch X10's (if you can find them in your price range) are quite good.

$50 IEM for everything would probably be the MEElectronics A151

Open headphone for 170 GBP uhm...are you sure you want open? Your genres show otherwise since most open headphones in this price range are bass light with the exception of the Beyerdynamic DT990, which I felt were too bright for metal, but they could be glorious for the next guy. So if you really want open, go for those. The only problem is that they'd like a bit more power (amp) but it's not completely needed.

If you don't listen to as much dubstep as you do rock, get Grados. For rock music, I doubt there exists a better headphone line. They don't have the bass one would want for genres like dubstep, hip-hop, etc.

If you do want to cover all the bases, a more neutral headphone is a better choice. I would go with a pair of Audio Technica ATH-M50s, Ultrasone Pro 650s (not as neutral, I'm assuming, but will still impress with your music), Shure SRH-840s, or SRH-940s.

cwill2014 wrote Alright thank you very much. The reason I was asking is because i had solo hd beats that I now regret buying and if i could get way better sound quality at half the price, i don't see why i should stick with these. The sound quality was very poor on the beats which shocked me considering how popular they are. Once again thank you very much for your help.

Haha, try 1/20 of the price (I've seen these under $10)!

thanks so much for this, amazing thread!

Save your money and get the Brainwavz M2, which cost around $50 last time I checked. Incredible for the price, built well, awesome looking, and they'll handle your music very well!

whoa, never even heard of those, they look good though
i'm currently using some jamz i picked up on boxing day for 40 usd, they're not bad but i could resell them for 90 easy.
so if i do this, my budget is about 200,

i'm really looking for a long lasting, quality iem,
what are my options?

right now i'm mainly looking at klipsch x10's, but i'll have a quick browse around head-fi and /mu/
what's your opinion on this?

If you can get a UE Triple-Fi off Head-Fi from someone who got it when they were $100, thay would be a really good deal. I've seen them for $120. The X10s are a really good option, but from what I've heard, the TF10s are better. You can also get them re-shelled into customs! Custom-molded TF10s are HUGE bang for your buck.

The basement-dwelling neckbeards of /g/ will be more helpful than the egotistical hipsters of /mu/ (I love them all the same, by the way).

The TF10s will be a massive improvement over the UE 500s! Good luck!

I think you'l find much of my music to be /mu/ approved! Still, I don't let them determine what I like. That's my job. They just have some very good taste. I get on people for listening to certain music, as well. Big time.

The 448s need to be amped, ruling them out for most people. There are better options for the price, though. The other options can't really be compared to any of the decent-sounding Beats (Studio, Pro) since they're, well, 50 bucks. They destroy Solos, and can easily compete with the Studios. The Pros are not that much better than Studios.
Thanks for the info. But here's my problem. I have a amp but it only supports 6 pin mini din. I have been looking everywhere for a "6 pin mini din male to female 3.5 mm aux-out" cable but it has proven a pain to find it. Think you know where I can find one? Or if it's possible to rig one up myself with a few supplies? I attached a beautiful illustration I did in paint to show you my problem.
