Well I wouldn't get Tour Beats. I got them for $150 and when I got them the left ear bud didn't work at all. And all of the reviews I looked at, almost every person said that they break in 2 weeks or less. So my advice to you is to not get those and to get some like bose headphones or something nice like those.

thanks so much for this, amazing thread!
Save your money and get the Brainwavz M2, which cost around $50 last time I checked. Incredible for the price, built well, awesome looking, and they'll handle your music very well!
whoa, never even heard of those, they look good though
i'm currently using some jamz i picked up on boxing day for 40 usd, they're not bad but i could resell them for 90 easy.
so if i do this, my budget is about 200,
i'm really looking for a long lasting, quality iem,
what are my options?
right now i'm mainly looking at klipsch x10's, but i'll have a quick browse around head-fi and /mu/
what's your opinion on this?
$200 can get you the upper end of the mid-fi world. If you really want an all arounder, the Ortofon EQ5 or EQ7, if you can find them in your price range, are pretty good options. It's a bit better than the X10's which I thought were just okay for their price (then again I used them when they cost $350). There's also the GR07 (which I haven't heard, but I get the feeling that they'd bore me) and Westone 2. The Sony EX600 is another good option and leaves you with about $60.
For the 170GBP one, I forgot about Grados, but if you aren't a USian, you're kind of shafted with pricing so I didn't really think about them. But yes, if you don't listen to too much dubstep, you can also look at those. If you are willing to open them up, there's a treasure trove of mods for Grados to improve bass and such. The Fischer Audio FA-011 is something else you could consider, but I haven't heard them so I can't fully recommend them. If you're willing to go closed, you could get the Ultrasone HFI680 (the PRO650's are a worthy choice too, but if you're thinking about getting those get the spiffier 25th Anniversary version from Thomann). I'm not really a fan of the M50 (waaay overhyped, highs were quite unremarkable, mids were hollow, and bass didn't really have much presence. It was there, but felt emasculated) or D2000 (I don't know how people can call these studio worthy when they're bassier than the M50's).
The amp has a DIN jack? Umm...you could look from German online shops. They had a fascination for DIN stuff in the 80's. Failing that, you could make one. I'm sure Mouser has the plug you need.

The only reason anyone should buy Bose headphones is for the noise cancelling. If you fly a lot and don't use them for music, they're not terrible if you can afford them.
I think I've already covered why you should never buy ANY Beats.

1yoyo105 wroter00t_b33r wroteThanks for the info. But here's my problem. I have a amp but it only supports 6 pin mini din. I have been looking everywhere for a "6 pin mini din male to female 3.5 mm aux-out" cable but it has proven a pain to find it. Think you know where I can find one? Or if it's possible to rig one up myself with a few supplies? I attached a beautiful illustration I did in paint to show you my problem.1yoyo105 wrote Quick question. What would you think in comparison of a pair of Sennheiser HD 448s vs. any pair of Beats?
The 448s need to be amped, ruling them out for most people. There are better options for the price, though. The other options can't really be compared to any of the decent-sounding Beats (Studio, Pro) since they're, well, 50 bucks. They destroy Solos, and can easily compete with the Studios. The Pros are not that much better than Studios.

Found the right jack on Markertek for 6 bucks. I could make an adapter to anything, really. See the bottom of the OP if you're interested in me making a cable. Although you might be able to use a sort of adapter chain to get what you want. Ick.
That's a very interesting amp to be using with headphones, though.

To be quite honest, I kind of liked the AE1 in a chill out sense. They were bassy and hopelessly colored sounding, but that's what made them fun. Plus they're comfier than any other headphone I own, and I own roughly 50 different kinds. The AE2's are just as comfy but Bose decided to make a more neutral headphone, which was dumb, since it's less enjoyable than its predecessor and if I wanted a neutral headphone, I'd go to a "legit" headphone manufacturer since they usually know what they're doing. Hint, most "legit" manufacturers make microphones too since the tech is pretty similar. AKG, Audez'e, Beyerdynamic, Sennheiser, Superlux, and Sony all made pretty good mics. Yes, Sony can be considered a "legit" manufacturer. Their low end models are sketchy but when they make an effort to make something good, they make something spectacular. Here's a bit of history. Bose's initial claim to fame was a speaker made in the 60's called the 901, of which a variant is still made today. It's probably the only good speaker they make nowadays, and "good" is questionable.

I believe they made it that socket to avoid what I am trying to do right now. Also can you link me to the jack on Markertek please?

My dad is kind of into speakers, but my mom hates them so he uses them less than monthly. We just sold a pair of fairly recent 901s. Now he uses some decent Marantz ones, but they sound VERY dark to me and the detail retrieval is less than stellar. I'm not a speaker guy, though, so I'm not really one to judge.
My parents bought a bunch of Bose stuff, though. I was really young, though, so I would not have been able to intervene. Home theatre, Acousticwave (just sold as well), crappy old QC-somthings, and the 901s. Oh well.
My beef with Bose headphones is the build quality. I also think they sound pretty goofy (that's the word). I like my M50s, but have never actually heard anything oh higher quality. NOBODY I know has decent headphones. Some Beats, which I have voiced my disappointment in, and there are no audio stores where I live. No Head-Fi meet ups, no no Can-Jam, nothing. I pay for everything I hear. Pro 900 is my next step up, and it will be the best audio equipment of any kind I will have experienced. I go off other peoples' experiences and reviews for my recommendations. What else can I do?
50 headphones? My friends and parents bother me about having 6! I'm just sampling different signatures, finding what I like.
And yes, never knock on Sony. Because Qualia.
